Black Mountain Spirit School of Chinese Kung Fu is an organization dedicated to the practice of Ancient Chinese Kung Fu both philosophically and martially, learning how to apply the concepts we learn in class to life. Located in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, We practice three styles of Chinese Kung Fu: Ho'o Chin Pai Northern Shaolin, Ming Hsien Kuei Shou Baguazhang Eight Trigram Palm, and Yang Jia Taij

iquan Grand Ultimate Fist. We concentrate on real applications in addition to the aesthetics of body, mind, and spirit. Through practice we strive to improve ourselves and those around us. A school of traditional Chinese Kung Fu, where one can learn the physical side of martial arts and self-defense applications, as well as gain exposure to the philosophical, cultural and historical background of Kung Fu. It is a school where one is challenged to grow both physically, intellectually and spiritually. Through the study of Kung Fu, students build confidence, learn to manage difficult situations and deal with conflict. These ancient traditions have been tested by time and are known for their practicality and effectiveness. At Black Mountain Spirit Kung Fu, all our training is geared towards personal perfection with these goals in mind. We are a group of students all joined for one main goal: to learn Chinese Kung Fu. We are committed to the preservation of this ancient wisdom accumulated over the ages. Our teacher, Da Shi Fu Marc Black, is very knowledgeable and has decades of teaching experience. His integrity guides us.

On this Memorial Day, we bow in solemn respect.

At Black Mountain Spirit, we carry a lineage steeped in the military traditions of ancient Chinese martial arts—a path walked by warriors who upheld honor, sacrifice, and service. As a martial arts school rooted in warrior tradition, we know that the highest purpose of strength is to protect others. Those who made the ultimate sacrifice lived that truth. Today, we stand in silent tribute to those in our own nation who made the ultimate sacrifice—those who, in defense of others, gave their lives in service.

Their courage echoes in the movements we practice.
Their discipline lives in the spirit we cultivate.
Their legacy is not forgotten.

We offer our deepest gratitude to the fallen, to their families, and to all who continue to serve.
We’re grateful. We remember.
And we train in their honor.
May our practice be worthy of the path they forged.

With respect,
The students and instructors of The Black Mountain Spirit Family

What what did I do for my birthday?
I didn’t go out for dinner.
I didn’t have a drink or get turned up with my boys.
But I did have a fun and exciting evening,
I was able to celebrate my physical health, community of friends, and really experience my own personal excitement and energy of youth!

Here, we find an insightful view into a single stanza of its core text - yet the depth of such simple words is boundless.
