In the early months of 2020, the COVID-19 virus outbreak was simply an overblown segment on the nightly news, background noise ignored by the masses. By the end of the year, 80% of the world population was infected.
After the collapse of the United States and Chinese economies, the remaining world powers closed their borders and tried to wait out the storm. Russia, seeing the opportunity to fill the void, sent forces to Chinese and America cities, trying to pick the bones of the fallen empires. The returning troops brought back an evolved and deadlier strain of the virus. The Russian Federation dissolved within months.
5 years after the initial outbreak, survivors in the American outbreak zones have created new settlements among the remains of the old world. But with the growing number of survivors comes a growing need for resources.
(TEAM A)...A scouting party from the settlement of Locktown along the Ohio River, has located a stash of gasoline and biofuel on a farm in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. These precious resources will fuel their fishing boats and generators for months to come, long enough to allow the settlement to complete their hydroelectric power generators. Locktown has sent the majority of their security forces in a desperate bid for survival.
(TEAM B)...Following a paper trail of old shipping manifests, and stories from travelling survivors, the settlement of New Apple has dispatched a group of trackers and soldiers to an old lumber farm in the Appalachian Mountains in the hopes of finding a stash of gasoline and biofuel. The resources brought back from this expedition will help fuel the settlements fleet of planes, and allow the desperate survivors to escape across the Atlantic Ocean to the more stable regions of Eastern Europe.
