On June 3rd, we hosted the 2nd Annual Barbara Bernard Memorial Swim. This event allowed us the celebrate Barbara's legacy while also raising awareness as it relates to the impact of our aquatics and swim programs.

We are proud to share that we had more than 125 swim participants, more than 130 donors and raised over $14K! The funds raised will directly benefit capital improvement projects for our swim and aquatics programs. Last year alone, more than 2,600 kids learned how to swim at our YMCA!!!

We are thrilled to recognize Cheryl Labrie as our Staff of the Month! For more than 27 years at Greater Holyoke YMCA, Cheryl has been at the forefront leading our youth development operations, including afterschool, summer camp, early education, school day enrichment, and teen services. Within her role, she has built community partnerships, expanded youth services and launched new programs, facilitated life changing experiences for kids across Greater Holyoke and much more.

Most importantly, Cheryl has created a strong, powerful relationship with every child and family who comes to Greater Holyoke YMCA. Please help us recognize Cheryl for unwavering commitment to kids!

Did you know Father’s Day began at a YMCA? In 1910, the first Father’s Day celebration was held at a YMCA in Spokane, Washington, to honor a devoted father who raised six children on his own.

Today, we continue to celebrate the dads, grandfathers, and father figures who strengthen our families and communities every day.

This week we celebrated Y-Kids Preschool Graduation. While it’s difficult to say goodbye, we are excited to see our kids continue to flourish in Kindergarten. Thank you to all the families who entrust us with keeping their children safe and building an academic foundation to help unleash their full potential.

Special shout out to Holyoke Public Schools, Irene E & George A Davis Foundation, MA Dept of Early Education and Care and all of our other partners for investing in the lives on our kids!

On behalf of our board, staff, members, and overall community, we can’t thank Senator John Velis enough for his critical investments to support our mission. The Men’s and Women’s Locker Room Changing Area renovation removed carpet, replaced metal lockers, upgraded lighting, installed soft seating, and overall created a more welcoming, safe environment for all. Thank you Senator for taking a dream and making it a reality!

Y-Kids Preschool Program is learning how to grow, manage, and enjoy a healthy snack all through hydroponic gardening systems. From seed to snack, we are proud to teach our kids about healthy lifestyles and sustainability!

Our young entrepreneurs just completed their very world order custom hoodies for the South Hadley Public Schools Middle School Softball Team and this is only the beginning.

Our kids learn everything from designing on the computer, to sizing and cutting with the Cricut, to pressing the vinyl onto each hoodie by hand.

This project was more than hoodies. It was confidence building, skill building, and a true introduction to entrepreneurship. They experienced what it takes to take an idea from concept to completion and deliver a finished product a team is proud to wear.

First order completed and more impact to come!
