My goal is to chronicle the rebuilding of the Big Range Firing Point. I plan on also doing this on the website, but I've been a little slow getting it done. I told Rick Arrigo that if he got me some pics, I'd try to get them on the website. This will have to do until I accomplish it.
I'm starting out with a few showing the original structure. Then moving to the ones that Rick sent me.

Takeaways from the December Membership meeting: All officers for 2025 are the same with the exception of Range Master. Rick Arrigo will be Range Master with help from Ray Brenner and others.

Eric Moe gave an update on the progress of the Big Range construction project. They have a contractor that has given a bid, but they would like to get one more before they release it. We can save money by doing the demo work on the existing structure. You may see some people starting to tear down the structure around benches 1 - 10 for use down on the pistol range. This has been approved. (Only the roof part, not the benches or concrete.)

We have a new snow plow operator this year. The consensus is that he is doing a good job so far.

You may eventually see a new website for the Holton Gun and Bow Club. Joe Gugin has volunteered to do the legwork to get the site moved to another provider with a format that will be easier for anybody to go in and make changes on it.

There will be a 30 egg shoot on Sunday January 12 that was approved by the membership.

There was a motion made and approved to remove the remnants of the raised archery platform. It is felt that it was damaged when the stairs were destroyed and it is a big liability to the club to let it stand and possibly have somebody climb it and try to use it.

Eric Moe has a list of people that usually/sometimes shoot on the Wednesday and Thursday shoots. Please make sure that he has your mobile phone number if you would like to receive a text message if a shoot is canceled.

There will be a vote at the next meeting for a social member that wishes to become a Full member. (I believe Riley Brooks)

A draft of the proposed Range Rules changes were read at the August membership meeting. There were a couple of other ideas discussed which include: incorporating a buzzer when the red light is turned on...except for organized events. There was also a motion to eliminate shotguns. (I will need to check the exact wording on that.)
I'm not sure if there will be a vote on it at the September meeting or if the new draft will be read and a vote held at a later time. In any case, if you have questions or comments you may want to be at the meeting.

Many of you have seen this donation request that was sent out recently to raise money to replace the shooting cover and cement at the 40 bench range. I believe that there is one error in the mailing because those running the IBS nationals that were held in July asked that the profit from it be included in the what the club has said we will put towards the project. That will presumably add about $5,000 to $10,000 to the the clubs pledge.

Example of a bipod setup that is NOT legal in the FACTORY CLASS.

ARA Rule 8.4.2.3 Bipods are allowed. A bipod has two touchpoints on the bench top. If a bipod is attached, it must be used as a bipod and not attached to or placed into any other fixture.

Clarification: Bipods must maintain two points of touch. Anything placed between a foot and the bench must be separate. A single towel, mat, or other material can not be under both feet. You can place padding, nonslip material, etc under each foot but can not touch each other. Similar to how something under the front and rear rests or bags can not touch each other.

A Clarifications section has been added to the end of the ARA Rule Book. Understanding that some rules may be interpreted differently, the following clarifications are the interpretation of the ARA governing body and should be followed at all ARA Sanctioned events.
