Cats’ roll past Marysville Post 163 in the first round of the KALB State Tournament with a final score of 12-1. Holton opened up bracket play with a Complete Game, No-Hitter by Cody Rodriguez.

Post 44 Wildcats won big over Marysville Post 163 12-1 on Thursday at Bettis Family Sports Complex.

Post 44 Wildcats jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Landon Sawyer drew a walk, scoring one run, Kannon Segenhagen drew a walk, scoring one run, Camryn Wheeler was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Dominic Lancaster drew a walk, scoring one run, and Clete Wray singled, scoring two runs.

Post 44 Wildcats added one run in the second after Wheeler walked.

Post 44 Wildcats added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Sawyer walked, and Jarett Abel grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.

Cody Rodriguez stepped on the bump first for Post 44 Wildcats. The right-handed pitcher threw a complete game, no hitter in five innings of work, striking out two and walking two.

Leadoff hitter Wray led Holton with two hits in two at bats. Post 44 Wildcats had a strong eye at the plate, amassing 12 walks for the game. Wray, Sawyer, and Cade Colberg led the team with two bases on balls each. Holton turned one double play in the game and committed one error on defense. Caleb McCrory had the most chances in the field with five.*

The ‘Cats split the doubleheader against Seneca Post 21. Below is a recap of the Game 1 win:

Post 44 Wildcats snatched the lead late in their 8-7 victory over Seneca Post 21 on Monday. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the sixth when Clete Wray lined out, scoring one run.

Cody Rodriguez grounded out, which tied the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Holton made the score 5-3 in the bottom of the second after Jarett Abel homered to left field, scoring two runs, Brodyn King singled, scoring one run, and Caleb McCrory singled, scoring one run.

Post 44 extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Jake Segenhagen and Abel.

Dominic Lancaster opened the game for the Wildcats. The starter allowed six hits and six runs (four earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out two and walking four. Rodriguez tossed two innings of scoreless ball for Post 44 Wildcats in relief. The righty surrendered two hits, striking out one and walking one.

Post 44 Wildcats accumulated 10 hits in the game. Abel led Post 44 Wildcats with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Abel, Segenhagen, and Wray each collected two hits. Abel and Kannon Segenhagen each stole multiple bases. Holton ran wild on the base paths, accumulating six stolen bases and turned one double play in the game.*
