Blackwater River locals, how many of these did YOU know?

We spend a lot of time on the Blackwater, but there’s a whole lot more to this river than meets the eye!

🛶 The Blackwater River actually begins in southern Alabama before flowing into northwest Florida.

🛶 The “black” water isn’t dirty! That beautiful tea color comes from natural tannins released by leaves and vegetation.

🛶 The river averages only about 2½ feet deep in many areas.

🛶 Those gorgeous white sandbars are constantly changing as the sandy river bottom shifts with the current.

🛶 People have been traveling and living around this area for thousands of years, with archaeological evidence in the area possibly dating back around 10,000 years.

🛶 The surrounding Blackwater region is home to one of the largest remaining longleaf pine and wiregrass landscapes.

And we know the locals probably have a few facts - and stories - we missed!
