Over the years, I’ve had literally thousands of people approach me with a variety of questions about the martial arts.
These people are sincere in their interest and understand that I may be able to give some useful insight, answer some questions that they have and offer a perspective that is based upon actual experience rather than opinion.
Now, with the noise of social media, many people are confused about the martial arts in general. Everyone has an opinion and while that’s cool and all, the general public (largely unfamiliar with martial arts) is often directed away from the more lasting and meaningful benefits of martial arts training.
I’m speaking of the kind of benefits that form a lifelong practice that offers far more than just the physical aspect.
The kind that changes lives.
I’ve been encouraged by for many years to write books, share what I’ve learned with others in different ways. But I’m pretty “OLD SCHOOL” and I preferred to focus on the students that made the effort to show up and learn. Learn by doing is a maxim used in many martial arts and these arts weren’t designed to be practiced with convenience in mind.
However, our society needs help and times change. Martial artists that have significant experience may have tools that can help some people in some ways have a better alternative to the current ways that are emerging.
This year, in partial celebration of my 55th year of active study and practice of Karate, my team and I have decided to open some of the conversations up and form a channel designed to help those looking for some direction or answers to commonly asked questions. I’ve trained and competed around the world and some of my experiences may be useful to some of you.
I won’t be telling people how to train or what to do on the channel. You need to commit to regular training in a dojo for guidance from a truly (not marginally) qualified teacher. There’s no substitute for that. Rather, you’ll hear some of my answers to questions that repeatedly come up.
If it’s well received, we’ll do more and expand. I value your opinions so please share.
Our new YouTube handle is:
If you’re on this dojo page I also invite you to like and subscribe to the channel and page for a chance to see what I mean. There will be some content in the future that will only be made available to subscribers.
And…….for those with negativity in their mind or heart, silly comments or the “my art is best” nonsense, just keep it moving. No one here is interested in argument or debate. In short, STOP …..DO BETTER!
Let’s go!
