I enjoyed an insightful Whole Body Pelvic Health workshop taught by UK Pilates Master instructor, Claire Sparrow, founder of Claire Sparrow Pilates Claire Sparrow Pilates who was hosted by Nice&Tall Pilates studio. Nice&Tall is located in the same building and the same 2nd floor where Joseph Pilates had his studio for more than 40 years, at The Van Dyck Studio building for artists built in 1889, located at 939 8th Avenue in NYC.

I greatly enjoyed a trip in time and place to Joseph Pilates original studio location at 939 8th Avenue this weekend. The building, The Van Dyck Studio, was built in 1889 as an artist space. Joseph Pilates occupied the 2nd floor from 1926 to his death in 1967. The Van Dyck Studio building is situated .3 mile from Carnegie Hall and .8 mile from George Balanchine's first location for the School of American Ballet which opened on Madison Avenue in 1934. This is a great visual model of how breath resonates through the body allowing natural expansion and compression while calming the nervous system. Habituallly pulling one's belly in too tightly can interfere with the synchroniztion of the respiratory and pelvic diaphragms resulting in a paradoxical breathing pattern which can agitate one's nervous system, possiblly cause pelvic floor/pelvic diaphragm dysfunctions and interfere with digestion. When the breath resonates through the body, one can actually sense very subtle movement in the pelvic bones in addition to the more pronounced ribcage bone movement.

This little chair addresses the stabilizer muscles of the shoulder joint while the student keeps an uplifted posture. CoreFocused, LLC offers both a blend of contemporary and classic Pilates instruction with a focus of joint integrity and biomechanics. CoreFocused Pilates of Hollis just received shipment from Merrithew for updates to the Cadillac and V2Max Tower/reformer. The Cadillac now sports a new surface and the V2Max reformer has a new carriage and mat converter.
