Today’s photo shoot gave me one of my favorite moments of the day.

Lorena and I had been taking photos together, moving through exercises and capturing what we do. But when we finished, we simply hugged.

No posing. No direction. Just two people who genuinely adore each other.

Lorena was in the very first class I ever taught 22 years ago at Avalon School of the Arts. Today, she’s still here, moving with us twice a week after retiring from a career as an elementary school teacher.

As we stood there, I told her she’s my oldest Pilates friend. Then I cried.

Not because I was sad, but because I was overwhelmed with gratitude.

For 22 years, she has been a constant. She has inspired me, encouraged me, and inspired countless others who have had the privilege of moving alongside her. Her presence has shaped this community in ways that are hard to put into words.

And as I thought about it later, I realized she has been there for nearly every chapter of my teaching career. I think she may have been part of every photo shoot I’ve ever had over the last 24 years.

What a gift it is to spend your life doing work you love. And what an even greater gift it is when the people who walk through your doors become lifelong friends.

Twenty-two years. What a beautiful friendship. ❤️

What if one of the most important things for our health, happiness, and resilience isn’t a habit, supplement, or workout—but a place where we belong?

Recently, I found myself thinking about the concept of a third place—the spaces that exist beyond home and work where connection happens naturally. Places where people know your name, where conversations unfold, where community grows one interaction at a time.

The more I reflected on it, the more I realized how fortunate I am to have several of these spaces in my life. Places where I can show up exactly as I am, where people celebrate one another, support one another, and create a genuine sense of belonging.

It also reminded me how intentional community can be. It doesn’t happen by accident. It grows through shared experiences, meaningful conversations, familiar faces, and a willingness to make room for one another.

At Pilates in Holland, I have the privilege of witnessing that every day. Friendships form. People check in on each other. New clients are welcomed in. What begins as a class often becomes something much more.

We all deserve a place where we feel seen, valued, and connected.

Have you found your third place?

Renee wrote more about it on the blog today. I’d love for you to give it a read and tell me about the place—or people—that help you feel like you belong. ❤️

Connection.

The word that keeps coming to mind.

Over the past few weeks, many of you have known that I’ve been spending time with my Bubba as we said goodbye. During that time, I’ve felt an incredible amount of support, kindness, understanding, and love—not just from family and friends, but from this studio community.

This photo captures so much of what Pilates in Holland has become over the years. Clients become friends. Teachers become family. People show up for one another.

This week, a brand-new client wrote:

“You have such a beautiful, warm, and supportive studio. I cannot wait to spend more time here.”

After only one visit, she felt what so many of us experience every day.

The Pilates is important. The strength, mobility, balance, and movement matter.

But it’s the people that make this place special.

Thank you for carrying me through a difficult season and for continuing to make Pilates in Holland feel like home. ❤️ Mandy

As many of you know, my dad—my Bubba—is nearing the end of his life. As our family navigates this season, some plans for the studio needed to be shifted forward quickly so I could be where I needed to be.

With very little notice, I sent a few texts.

What happened next is something I won’t forget.

Friends, clients, and teachers immediately sprang into action. People showed up to move equipment, organize spaces, problem-solve, and take things off my plate without hesitation. Nobody asked for recognition. They simply asked, “What can I do?”

For more than twelve years, I’ve had the privilege of watching relationships grow inside these walls. What began as a Pilates studio has become a community of people who genuinely care for one another.

In a season that feels heavy, I have been reminded how lucky I am to be surrounded by such incredible humans.

To everyone who showed up, lent a hand, sent a text, offered support, or held space for my family—thank you. Your kindness has meant more than I can put into words. ❤️

Your reminder on the warm Monday in Holland 🩷

A little reminder from class today: your ribs are meant to move. 🤍✨

Not just forward. Not just up into the shoulders. But wide into the sides, into the back body, and gently narrowing again with the exhale.

Today we spent time bringing awareness to rib cage mobility through breath—using our hands, the mirror, and simple movement to help the brain build a different map.

Because sometimes when we want a bigger breath, the shoulders take over. But when we shift our attention into the rib cage instead? Things can change.

Once the ribs felt a little more available, we translated that into movement—gliding side to side, opening through the thoracic spine, and creating that delicious feeling of “wow, I feel freer.”

Give it a try 😉
Hands to ribs. Breathe wide. Notice what shifts.

Just take one step… it feels good to take action.
