Today’s photo shoot gave me one of my favorite moments of the day.
Lorena and I had been taking photos together, moving through exercises and capturing what we do. But when we finished, we simply hugged.
No posing. No direction. Just two people who genuinely adore each other.
Lorena was in the very first class I ever taught 22 years ago at Avalon School of the Arts. Today, she’s still here, moving with us twice a week after retiring from a career as an elementary school teacher.
As we stood there, I told her she’s my oldest Pilates friend. Then I cried.
Not because I was sad, but because I was overwhelmed with gratitude.
For 22 years, she has been a constant. She has inspired me, encouraged me, and inspired countless others who have had the privilege of moving alongside her. Her presence has shaped this community in ways that are hard to put into words.
And as I thought about it later, I realized she has been there for nearly every chapter of my teaching career. I think she may have been part of every photo shoot I’ve ever had over the last 24 years.
What a gift it is to spend your life doing work you love. And what an even greater gift it is when the people who walk through your doors become lifelong friends.
Twenty-two years. What a beautiful friendship. ❤️
