A friend just showed me photo of 2 citation Red Drum he caught on the East end of Holden the last few days. Fresh mullet was the bait.

Fishing from the beach has started to pick up. The water is clearing up and mullet are in the surf. Tuesday was a fish on every cast. Bluefish and Ladyfish on fresh mullet and whiting on shrimp or sandfleas.

Lots of nice size (3pound) Bluefish in the surf. These fish are hitting on cut mullet. A friend caught two very nice size Red Drum in the surf earlier this week. Lots of bait in the water. Time to go fishing. Make sure to have fresh bait.

The Fall Mullet Run has begun. Red Drum, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish and other gamefish will be feeding on the mullet as they run along the beach migrating South. Live or fresh dead mullet and sand fleas are your best bait this time of year. Good luck!

Some nice Black Drum caught today. Shrimp is the preferred bait. Resist the temptation to put your rod in a sand spike. Instead hold it. There are so many small croakers around that they will strip your bait and you will never notice it when the rod is in a sand spike.

Nice Whiting and big Pompano in the surf. Shrimp or Sandfleas are the preferred bait. Good luck!

Surf fishing has begun at Holden Beach. A good friend went fishing yesterday and caught a number of nice big Whiting. Fresh shrimp was the bait. It doesn’t get much better eating than fillet size Whiting.

A friend fished the Beach on the West end yesterday and caught two big Whiting. Shrimp was the bait.

Hi Folks, I fished the West end of Holden five times in the last week and things were slow. I fished early afternoon until dark each time. Small Bluefish, Whiting, a Pompano and a Croaker mostly small. Bluefish were caught on fresh Mullet the rest on fresh Shrimp. Hopefully this cool snap will get the larger fish moving. Good luck!

Things have been slow on the beach lately but some decent size Pompano are around. Sand fleas are the preferred bait, if you can find them. Beach sand re-nourishment generally knocks them back. Fresh shrimp is a good second choice. I’m finding that sometime small croakers are stripping your bait within a minute or so of it hitting the water. Try holding your rod rather that sticking it in a sand spike. At least you will know your bait is gone and you won’t be fishing with empty hooks. Good luck and let us know how you did.

Hi everyone, I talked with the folks at The Rod And Reel Shop and Rigged And Ready. Good sized Pompano have shown up and some very nice fish have been caught. Not many but some very nice fish. Some Red and Black Drum as well as nice Whiting are also being caught. Fresh shrimp is an excellent bait as well as fresh cut bait for Red Drum. Lots of big sharks around so please loosen that drag before putting a rod in a sand spike. Good luck and please let us know how you did.

I fished the West end yesterday with a buddy. We used fresh shrimp and fresh spot. The only activity we had were pinfish stealing bait and a large shark that would have spooled me on the initial run had I not broken him off. How did others do this weekend?
