We were honored to have an article written about us in this issue of the Oxfordian Magazine! Thank you to the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce and to HaLeigh Abbott for visiting us. Happy 7 Year Anniversary to us!! We had a super fun party this year- complete with 9 "Punchy Award" winners! 46 were able to attend, including past and present fighters, their loved ones, our 3 amazing volunteers(Bob, Debbie, and Ken), Mandy and myself (Katie). It was a room absolutely full of love, happiness and appreciation despite the reason that brought us all together 💗

They're just showing off now! - Balancing while removing clothes pins AND keeping a balloon up! Also- some "blind drawings" that are just spot on 😆, synchronized group exercises, and partner challenges. It's been a fun few classes! 🥊

Took my smell test today! (Support SCIENCE!) The boys went after me to see if they agreed with me 😆 Such an easy few minutes of time to help with scientific research that could impact so many lives! https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17eWkQ34gh/
Big News: the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) is recruiting more volunteers. PPMI has achieved incredible breakthroughs, including the first-ever Parkinson’s biomarker and deepening the understanding of the link between sense of smell and brain disease.

Now, PPMI researchers are calling on new groups to take a free scratch-and-sniff test:
✔️ People without Parkinson’s age 40+
✔️ People diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the past seven years age 30+

Help move research forward. Request a free smell test today: mysmelltest.org/getmytest

Scott
Today, we said goodbye to another one of our RSB family members. What can I say about Scott?… The man was tough. We started off our coach/fighter relationship a little rocky. He was frustrated and p*ssed off and difficult sometimes. But here’s the thing- he had every right to be. He was a strong, active guy. He loved his kids and loved life. Before Parkinson’s got a hold of him, he was a young football and basketball player, a marathon runner and golfer. The truth is, Parkinson’s just plain sucks, and it sure didn’t pull many punches with Scott. This is why I say Scott was tough. He would come back to class and punch back (his favorite part 🥊) He apologized to me a few times for losing his cool, and we just moved on. He and I would share our love of music together- he’d request a band or song, and he’d get back to his fight. On a good day, when PD wasn’t stealing his voice, he’d even sing. I listened to “Soulshine” by the Allman Brothers on my way home from the service. It will always be the song I attach to his memory. Rest easy, Scott, and enjoy the music.
