Introducing our next Junior Instructor, Kristin Santiago!
•
Kristin is originally from Quezon City, Phillipines, but has moved to NJ, PA, and now resides in Newark, DE.
•
Kristin has officially been teaching with TTL for 2 months now, but has been dancing on and off her whole life. She's dabbled in ballet, jazz, and even competed in International Latin and Ballroom for about 6 years at the Open Gold Level.
•
She walked into Take the Lead on September 29, 2022 after 14 years of no dancing and jumped right back in. She promised herself to NEVER let herself go that long without dance ever again.
•
Her return to showcase dancing with TTL Ballroom instructor Rene Ostarek in 2022's December to Remember showcase. That was by far the most difficult and trying year in her personal life, and to be able to dance the way she did after a mere 9 weeks of jumping back into dance was such a huge accomplishment, and speaks to Rene's skill as a great teacher!
•
Now an instructor herself, she often sees what she describes as "the click". She explains how this is the exact moment where the student has learned the movement and can execute it almost effortlessly. For her, working with her students is about allowing them to access the tools they need to accomplish their dance goals. Whether it be for community, to learn a basic, or learn a whole new style, she just wants her students to show themselves that they can reach their own goals.
•
Kristin's own goals/what keeps her dancing, it's better said from her, "Dancing allows me to communicate with just about anybody. Being a Filipina in an industry whose roots are in the Latinx community, I used to feel ostracized since I couldn't speak Spanish fluently. With dancing, specifically social partner dancing, we use our bodies to convey a message. I've never felt more understood than when I successfully lead a great dance with a follow. When I follow, it forces me to listen to my lead and not "backlead" myself. Despite any language, culture, or humor barriers, dancing allows me to understand and be understood by virtually anyone, and that's such a beautiful thing."

And if any of you see her around, feel free to call her Baby Teach 🔥
