My feathers are ruffled! The Florida Department of Environmental Protection responded to all of us with a SURVEY. Please take time to do this. It's important for so many reasons. I'll put another link in the comments in case this one doesn't work. ..

Here's what I said to them:
There is absolutely NO reason to develop or put a golf course in a state park. It's completely irresponsible for our environmental managers to even propose such a disastrous plan! Development and golf courses cause erosion, pollution, and habitat destruction on land and in the ocean. That's only the initial physical damage to the area. There are intermediate and trickle-down effects that could cause the entire ecosystem to collapse and die. There are well-defined negative social effects as well. There's simply too much at stake to risk creating an environmental imbalance...
When golf courses don't make a profit, developers and FDEP will want to build hotels, condos, and retail establishments in that space. NO thank you! We want our natural areas to remain natural. There are over 40 golf courses in that immediate area, and there is only ONE publicly accessible, safe, natural scrub habitat that we can peacefully hike and bike in. Aside from the destruction of natural elements, I don't want my family to have to dodge golf balls, clean up trash, or listen to the noise of maintenance machinery or vendors' trucks and traffic to the area. All of the animals would be forced to leave or die. A golf course is NOT a benefit to over a hundred thousand people who visit the park regularly. We all know the project at JDSP was proposed as a greedy scheme to benefit the elite---only 2% of the population!
Additionally, the proposed projects go against the FDEP mission and vision! We want to see all the data compiled by NON-BIASED scientists on every protected species of flora and fauna in the State parks IMMEDIATELY. I'm willing to bet you don't have any genuine survey data of your own, and FWC data will not be acceptable considering the current leader's ties to golf...
The FDEP and the Governor are too far out of touch with Floridians. We have joined forces with numerous non-profits, have state legislatures on board, and we're prepared to join forces with Earth Justice and other groups to fight this proposal! The parks qualify for the ultimate protection, and we'll seek to remove precious natural habitats from State management if that's what it takes to ensure an egregious threat does not arise in the future. PROTECT the environment! STOP DEVELOPMENT of natural areas, especially OUR STATE PARKS!

Late day surfing photos just don't have the pizazz that the morning shots do, but I finally had a chance to get over to North Beach last week. The waves weren't great, but a few guys got some nice ones.
