The Shipyard Plantation has changed hands many times over the years, but it is one of only two plantations to retain its antebellum name. A bricklayer from Dublin, Ireland, named Henry Talbot-Talbird is the first recorded owner of the 1,765-acre property in the early 1700s. Because bricks were manufactured on the property (including for the 3rd Tybee Island Lighthouse), it came to be known as the

“Brickyard Plantation.” But after the Revolutionary War, the Fickling family resided here. And because they were shipbuilders, the plantation became known as the “Fickling Plantation”.

Operation Patriots FOB (OPFOB), which provides veterans, active duty military, first responders, and their families with purpose through outdoor recreational activities that build community and restores the camaraderie that is missed the most after leaving service.
