Are you a "one day" person or a "day one" person? I have had several people comment about how a person's black belt test is the second hardest test in the Martial Arts. Which of course prompts the question- which is the hardest? Stepping onto the mat on your first day...

At the AKTS Spirit Camp working on some awesome black belt material. The first two classes spent a lot of time on Attacking Mace.

For those who don't know, Attacking Mace is the 9th technique we teach and you must learn it before you get your Yellow Belt.

Today I had the great pleasure to witness the next step in this young man's journey. Today, one of Mr. K***z students had the opportunity to show us that he deserves to wear a black belt.

It was wonderful to see the progress this young man has made while working with Mr. K***z. Some 10 to 12 years ago, I was helping with some of the classes at Tigard Kenpo and I had the opportunity to work a little with Josh. At the time, holding his attention for 15 minutes was a challenge (one that Mr. K***z seemed able to handle) but today he went through a multiple hour black belt test and really showed his stuff.

They say that the best way to judge a teacher is by their students. By that measure, Mr. K***z is a fantastic teacher. Great job to both Josh and Mr. K***z.

First Tuesday technique line is tonight. I didn't get the event created, but it will happen.

The gym is almost back to normal. I am looking forward to starting 2017 right with the technique line on Tuesday. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. There are still spots open in the adult class for anyone looking to make good on your New Year's resolutions.
