There's a BIG difference between having a good swing and being a good hitter... A good swing plays in practice... A good hitter plays in games because of a good approach.

Alright...let's talk some hittin.

Out of the 10 or so at-bats you had this past week, how many of them did you have while walking up to the plate w/ 100% confidence with an attainable goal to hit the ball hard and help your team win?

How many of them were with an approach to attack the inner half of the ball with a tall back-side?

How many of them were with you trying to use the big part of the field?

How many of them were started with you hunting pitches based on what the pitcher was throwing at your team-mates?

If I ask you what your approache is at the plate and you can't SMACK DAB tell me what it is, OR WORSE...
..you shrug your shoulders...bro...you're throwing away at-bats.

Let's go - it's time we STOP letting or mind get in the way of our abilities.

This week, let's have an "opening day" mind-set.

There's no yesterday gettin in the way of today's game.

Here's how you do it:

"It's not about me. It's about me helping my team win. It's about me hitting the ball HARD. If I hit it hard, I win. If I get a hit it's a bonus."

This is the mind-set you have to practice if you want to be a great competitor.

Does this make sense? Good. This is only the beginning.

"How good you get at being a great competitor while showing up to the field with confidence will dictate how far you make it in this game".

Sit on this for a sec - The moment you stop caring whether you get a hit or not and start caring about hitting the ball hard, is the moment your career will take off...

The definition of a Quality At-Bat is:

Walking up to the plate with confidence w/ an attainable goal to hit the ball hard, attacking the inside part of the ball with a goal to hit your team win.

If you draw a walk, move a runner, hit the ball hard, have an 8 pitch at-bat, or got a base-hit...
...you had a Quality At-Bat.

That's it.

I get a CHILLIAN emails about how this approach to hitting works!

Yeah - A chillian...
..and it's funny how often I hear about the players that lead the team in Quality At-Bats are also the ones leading the team in hits and batting average.

If you remember one thing about this post, remember this....
..having the right approach, mind set and compete level requires ZERO talent.

Meaning - being a great ballplayer is a CHOICE!

Best,

P.S. Get labelled a gamer and a player who makes there team-mates better. This is my BEST baseball recruiting tip....

We have to stop using convention as a shortcut and start to be more scientific and objective about our approach to first understanding mechanics, and then teaching them.

I am not saying I have all of the answers, but I am saying that having a beginners mind is of paramount importance. Question assumptions, study, pay attention, think for yourself.

Healthy Skepticism admin January 23, 2017 HomeShare this PostStop with the logical fallacies already! In the baseball world there is a great deal of dogmatic thinking. “There is, biologically speaking, no substitute for attentive repetition. Nothing you can do – talking, thinking, reading, imagining – is more effective in building skill than executing the action, firing the impulse down the nerve fiber, fixing errors, honing the circuit.”

Steve Springer is one of my all time favorite hitting/mental coaches in the game. Here are his 5 biggest lessons he learned while playing for 30 years.

5 of the MOST important lesson I've learned after over 30 years in professional baseball:
Steve Springer.

1) Baseball is the BIGGEST self-esteem destroying sport in the world.

2) The batting average is the BIGGEST trap in all of baseball.

3) More young ballplayers quit before the age of 13 because of the pressure that's being put on them by the ones that love them the most. Coaches and parents.

4) Players that struggle don't usually have a bad swing. That have the wrong mindset.

5) 90% of hitting is how you feel when walking up to the plate.

He takes a much different approach to what success should look like at the plate, and teaches a different way to set goals and where your focus should be while at the plate.
