Sandy Hook Beach Yoga - 2025
Saturdays 8-9am
Beach in front of the Life Saving Station (Between D & E)
June 7th through October 4th
Beach yoga starts next week! And with that, just a couple of reminders/updates for this year:
Weather - In prior years, we powered through a lot of questionable days, but the park said that this year they would prefer if I canceled class in such cases. We unfortunately do not have any building or tents available to us, so on questionable days, I will have to cancel instead of waiting it out. I will still follow the same procedure as before, updating the page by 7am the day of with any cancellation, but will just need more judicious in making the call ( I.E. no more rain yoga... :)
Piping Plovers - The area that we practice is in between two areas that are closed off for the Piping Plovers to nest. They are an endangered species and their nesting is somewhat fragile and very hard to see, so please be mindful of them and do not enter any areas marked off for them. These areas are marked with signage and roped off with strings.
Bathrooms - The life saving station unfortunately will not be open before class starts, so if you need to use a bathroom before class, i suggest stopping at one of the pavilion restrooms before coming out to the beach as you may have a long walk otherwise. The building should be open after class, but again it will not be open before, so please keep that in mind
Parking & the Fee Booth - Over the years, many of you have mentioned to me that you have run into challenges at the fee booth, some rangers there say you have to pay to come in for beach yoga, and then others there say you do not, it all depends on who you get and it's a challenge to try to get consistent. I have spoken to those I work with at the park about it many times, but the challenge continues. The park policy is if you are parking at a beach parking lot during fee hours (8am-6pm), then you have to pay even if you are just coming to beach yoga. One "loophole" in that is you are allowed to park at the Life Saving Station for up to two hours for free, but parking there is very limited. So if you are coming in for beach yoga, and do not plan on staying past class for the beach, then let the person at fee know you are coming in for beach yoga and parking at the life saving station and they shouldn't question that. If you plan on parking at the Life Saving Station, there are only about 25 parking spots, so if you plan on parking there, you may want to arrive early to ensure a spot.
