NSYC Kayakers are "On a Roll"! Over 40 NEW kayakers so far this year, Lots of newly trained Kayak Rescuers, AND meanwhile the newly formed Kayaker Explorers Group (video link is pretty cool) is busy logging quality mileage. All are looking forward to this weekend - 6th Annual Beach2Beach Paddle Races! Thanks again to our tenacious Instructors and Leaders!

Our Sixth ANNUAL Worldwide Beach2Beach Paddle Race at the North Shore Yacht Club on Sat. 7/26/2025! Registration includes race, lunch and Awards Party.

5k, 10k, 15k, 1-mile beginners and family fun race. After completing the Long Distance Races participants will also have the oppotunity to race fellow padders in a sprint race for bragging rights!

Prizes in each of the Midwest Paddle League Divisions, Men-Women/5k-10k-15k and 1 Mile Races -Raceboards, Prone, SurfSup, OC, Kayak, Surfski and Rudderless Va'a.

Yesterday, we celebrated the ribbon cutting of the newly completed accessible boardwalk at Park Avenue North Beach, marking the completion of Phase 1 of the Park Avenue Beach Access Improvement Project.

Funded by a $400,000 Illinois Department of Natural Resources OSLAD grant and the Park District’s capital budget, this phase includes significant enhancements to improve accessibility, circulation, and recreational opportunities along the lakefront. Key improvements include:

• New concrete sidewalk for easier pedestrian access
• An accessible boardwalk along the beach with integrated seating
• Reconfigured parking lot for improved traffic flow and lake views
• New native landscaping surrounds the parking lot and board walk
• ADA access to the beach

These improvements support our continued mission to create welcoming, inclusive spaces that connect our community to the natural beauty of Lake Michigan.
