September 3, 1907:
Lenoir-Rhyne Football has their first ever game, a 15-0 loss to Catawba. LR went 0-3 that first season.

September 2, 1994:

The App State Women's Volleyball team swept UNC-Charlotte, 3-0 to open the season. App went 30-6 overall, 14-0 in the SoCon. That season, they would win a play-in game to advance to the NCAA Tournament, but fell in the first round to Georgia. They won 16 consecutive matches from September 13 to October 23, 1994, which stands as tied for the longest winning streak in school history.

First, we will always mention this on September 1:

In 2007, App State Football wins over Michigan on the road, 34-32 in the biggest upset in college football history.

But also in 1984, Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer has their first ever game, a 2-1 loss at Greensboro College.

Appalachian State Soccer got their 150th win in women's soccer program history with a 4-3 win against Liberty. The Mountaineers first season was in 1994.

The App State Women's Volleyball won over Charleston Southern 3-0 to open the 2015 season. App went 22-8 overall, 13-3 in their second season in the Sun Belt Conference. They open their season today at 3pm against NC A&T in the Charlotte Invitational in Halton Arena.

On this date in local sports history from the Hickory Metro

August 26, 2000:

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer team opened the 2000 season with a 1-0 win over Belmont Abbey on the road. The Bears went 11-9-1 that season, 4-3 in the South Atlantic Conference but would go on to win the South Atlantic Conference tournament, their first tournament championship in eight years.
