Ann Freeman Dance Academy

Ann Freeman Dance Academy AFDA was started by Ann Freeman 65 years ago and is one of the oldest dance studios in Hickory, NC. We offer dance classes from age three to 80!

Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern/Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, and Acro! The studio offers ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, modern, hip hop and three levels of acro as well as adult ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop classes. We having competing team opportunities for Kinder students through 12th grade. We also have traditional classes for students who just want to learn the art of dance.

Another AFDA Staff Birthday post! Everyone, say Happy Birthday to Mrs. Erika! She never filled out the questionnaire I gave everyone at the beginning of the 2025-26 Dance Season, so I don't have a "Meet the AFDA Staff" thing for her! However, Mrs. Erika took dance lessons here, starting at age 3 and continuing through high school! After college, she came back to us and has been teaching ever since. We cannot say enough great things about her - she is a consistent presence, our rock, if you will. Happy Birthday, Mrs. Erika!

AFDA is proud to announce that we are hosting a benefit for a dancer with a rare type of cancer (NUT Carcinoma) on Saturday, June 13th. The talented dance instructor, Christina Lee, will be teaching 2 Contemporary dance classes. The first class is for ages 7 to 10. The second class is for ages 11 to adult. All we ask is a donation - whatever you are comfortable with. You can pre-register at the number on the flyer, and if you can't come but still would like to donate, please use the QR code below. All proceeds will go straight to the dancer.

Another Recital Program goof! We left out our Preschool/Kinder Hip Hop Group! I'm not going to list their names, but I wanted to share the pictures of these cuties! These kids are awesome, and if you saw them onstage this past weekend, you know that they are adorable! Our apologies to the parents who were looking for their kids' pictures in the program! We messed up and sincerely apologize!
