Right To Race, Sound likes something straight out of Ricky Bobby Movie.
On October 1, 2025, North Carolina Governor Josh Stein allowed House Bill 926 to become law, a significant victory for the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and its subsidiary, Performance Racing Industry (PRI).
The bill includes the “Protect the Right to Race” provision, championed by Rep. Allen Chesser, which shields motorsports racetracks from nuisance lawsuits filed by nearby property owners who moved in after the tracks were legally established. This law preserves North Carolina’s $3.82 billion motorsports industry, which supports nearly 20,000 jobs, generates over $1.35 billion in wages, and contributes $477 million in taxes.
The legislation protects locally owned racetracks, which are vital for affordable entertainment, fostering young racers, and driving automotive innovation, from unreasonable complaints by opportunistic residents and developers.
SEMA and PRI praised Gov. Stein and Rep. Chesser for safeguarding the state’s vibrant motorsports community.
