Some bucks are big. Some bucks are freaks. But the Sammy Walker Buck is one of the only whitetails in history that scorers flat-out called “unscorable.” When Walker killed it in the Louisiana swamp in 1958, the antlers were so tangled, twisted, and overgrown that nobody could even figure out where the main beams started or ended. Vines, moss, branches. The whole rack looked like a storm-blown briar patch glued to a deer’s skull. Boone & Crockett wouldn’t even touch it, claiming the antler growth was too erratic to classify… yet one brave scorer still tried, coming up with an unofficial 291 3/8 inches of pure chaos.

Old timers said counting the points was like trying to count lightning bolts. No two people ever got the same number, and the more you looked at it, the weirder it got. Some swear it was a stag. Others say it was a one-in-a-million genetic accident. But everyone agrees: the Sammy Walker Buck might be the wildest set of antlers ever carried by a whitetail. So here’s the question… if a buck is so freakish it can’t even be scored, should it STILL count as one of the greatest of all time?
