The Skatery, Pillow

Watch for an announcement in the next couple of months of the book I'm writing. The working title is: "Roller Skates & Dairy Goats." The sub title is: "A Collection of Tales From Someday Hill," (our 63 acre Christmas Tree and Dairy Goat Farm in Pennsylvania).

Believe it or not, the story starts when my cousin Jeri Zaiser brought me to Mineola Skating Rink in 1951 (Mr M & I met there in '58) and goes full circle to our finally owning The Skatery, Pillow 30 years later, where we trained a number of PA State and Eastern Region Champions.

I even designed a tentative cover. Let me know what you think.
The photo shows our three oldest daughters with our first dairy goat, and her day-old twin does (1970) Sayville, LI.

Well, last Sunday's reunion was not as well attended as last year's was, but I did get a little more visit time with everyone who attended. Let me know if another time of the month would be better.

Will he first weekend catch everyone before they're doing last minute school shopping?

I hope those who were there will post the pictures that were taken.

It was the first time I'd seen Jim Diffenderfer in years and I bet it was at least 25 or 30 years since I saw Tony Julio! Dave Witt hasn't missed a reunion yet. Even Marty Dumic, who used to play the organ on Thursdays, got there again.

Loved that Stacy Graff, who learned to skate at the SKATERY brought his kids who took our classes and his little grandkid who skated for the first time ... THREE generations!

Do watch for an announcement for next year's reunion. It is only days till I complete my 90th trip around the sun, so who knows how many times I'll be able to return to PA?

Here are a few pictures from other SKATERY Reunions. We're all a bit (right ... a lot) older than we were when we skated at the SKATERY, but, I assure that you'll shed a few years as soon as you lace up your skates, no matter how long it may be.

When the seniors used to arrive on Wednesday mornings, they'd come in bent and using a cane. But it was totally different when they got out on the floor! Mr M and I used to say they paid a "Rejuvination Fee" instead of admission!

Popped up as I was strolling down Memory Lane ... April 1997 ... Our Spring Show: Stars on Wheels.

The guys said they'd do this once .... and only for me! And their act was a big hit. A couple of the girls styled their wigs.

They are Craig Harmon, Steve Keiter, Russ Miller and Donald Keiter!

Just stumbled on this picture. I remember that night very well .... and the next dozen years, as well.

March 24, 2002 ... The first time John and Fran Miller skated at the SKATERY. (And probably the first time John ever wore rentals!) Both managed to stay upright that night and continued attending our weekly adult sessions for the next twelve years, until we retired. .. It was a 2 hour drive (each way) on the interstate each time they made the trip! That's about the farthest anyone came on a regular basis. .. Thank you, John and Fran for your steady support.

BIG SKATERY Reunion coming up at Sunset Rink August 16, 2026. MARK your calendars NOW!

Will also celebrate the 90th birthday of someone you should know!

Mr M and I purchased the SKATERY in 1988 ... 38 years ago! Seems like yesterday! What a time we had there with you, for 26 years! How I wish we could have kept it going for another 26! But, it was just as well, because Mr M passed away 5-1/2 years later. I could never have carried on alone.

If you aren't able to skate, come anyway and visit!

For those of you who skated with us in the early years, you'll want to be sure to get there! Sally will be accompanying me this time, so I'm extra excited!

I will soon be 89, so it is anyone's guess how many more times I'll be able to do this trip, so please come!
