I want to share something and brag on someone I dont even know. This is Amanda Weathers. I do not know her and she isnt affiliated with Desoto Deer Processing in any way but...... When i tell you this is the best Raccoon I have ever seen...lawd help. It was runner up to best of show at the Illinois competition this past weekend. And to the untrained eye it may not seem so good. Trust me when I tell you that raccoons are not easy. This thing is only missing lungs!. This is quality taxidermy at its very best!.

Its not a wrap yet, but... First competition in 10 years led to a 2nd place finish. The mistakes I made on this deer were things I knew when I left Mississippi. 2nd place Professional Closed Mouth Whitetail isnt a bad haul for not having done it in 10 years. Needless to say things have changed alot in 10 years as well. Tomorrow we head back to continue work on customers mounts and plan our next competition. Thank you all for the support. Heading north to my first taxidermy competition of the season, and this time we’re bringing just one entry. For those who may not know, taxidermy competitions work a little differently than most people think—it’s a grading system, meaning everyone leaves with a ribbon. The real prize isn’t the ribbon, it’s the critique sheet. You go to be judged by some of the best taxidermists in the country, to have them point out what you did right, what you did wrong, and how to improve. The critique sheet I receive this weekend may end up being the most meaningful one I’ve ever earned. This is probably the best piece I’ll have ever entered, and while I’d be thrilled with a first-place ribbon or any additional award, what matters most to me is having one of the very best in the world tell me how to make my work even better. Wish us luck!
