1976 🇺🇸❤️🖤

In 1976, America pulsed with unbreakable pride as we marked our nation’s 200th birthday. Families gathered in massive crowds, waving the Stars and Stripes high, united by a shared love for the land of liberty and the enduring principles that built the greatest country on earth. That Bicentennial spirit captured the soul of a nation founded on faith, freedom, and fierce independence.

Those celebrations reminded us what true American exceptionalism looks like—hard-working people honoring our Founding Fathers’ vision without apology. It was a time when patriotism wasn’t controversial but a natural expression of gratitude for the opportunities and blessings this republic provides.

Today, let’s draw strength from that memory. We must recommit to preserving the Constitution, defending our sovereignty, and instilling in our children the same reverence for America’s history that lit up those fields in 1976. Our best days are still ahead if we stand firm for the values that make us one nation under God.

The Thurston Classic Hot Air Balloon Rally returns to Meadville June 18 through 21 at the Allegheny College Robertson Athletic Complex, bringing one of those perfect western Pennsylvania summer scenes: colorful balloons over town, families on blankets, lawn chairs everywhere, food in hand, and every adult pretending they are not checking the wind every five minutes. The free community event includes balloon launches, glowing evening displays, food, souvenirs, live commentary, and that small-town festival feeling you only get when the sky suddenly becomes the main attraction.

While you’re in Meadville, make a day of it. Stop by the historic Meadville Market House, grab a bite at Julian’s Bar & Grill, Eddie’s Footlong Hot Dogs, Timber Creek Tap & Table, Voodoo Brewery, Blissful Meads, Cup N’ Spoon, or Hank’s Frozen Custard, then wander over to local spots like the Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum, Ernst Trail, Woodcock Lake Park, or the PennDOT Road Sign Sculpture Garden, because yes, that is a very Pennsylvania landmark. It is the kind of weekend where you go for the balloons and accidentally remember why small-town PA in the summer is still undefeated.
