Before we had a gym.
Before the packed classes.
Before the tournaments, promotions, and team photos.

There were these three.

They started with us in the garage and never left.

Over the years they’ve become more than students. They’ve become teammates, mentors, leaders, and examples for every younger kid who walks through our doors.

When parents ask what we’re trying to build at Wrecking Crew, this picture is the answer.

Not champions.
Not medal collectors.

Young people with confidence, discipline, resilience, and the willingness to help others succeed.

We’re proud of all of our kids, but these three will always have a special place in our story. They believed in what we were building before there was much to believe in.

Over the last year we’ve continued to grow, improve our program, expand our classes, and invest back into the team and gym.

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

That phrase has been rattling around in my head a lot lately because I’m watching it happen in real time.

I’m watching talented people waste potential because they won’t show up consistently, won’t push themselves, or won’t embrace the grind when it stops being fun.

At the same time, I’m watching people with less natural talent quit because it’s hard. Because they lose rounds. Because progress is slow. Because showing up every day isn’t glamorous.

Here’s the truth:
Talent might give you a head start, but discipline decides who stays in the race.

The people improving the fastest aren’t always the most athletic, strongest, or naturally gifted. They’re the ones who keep showing up. The ones willing to struggle. The ones willing to fail publicly and come back tomorrow anyway.

Consistency beats flashes of greatness.
Effort beats excuses.
And hard work compounds.

Every single time.

Huge congratulations to Daizzy on an incredible first competition weekend.

Daizzy never competed at white belt, so this was her very first time stepping onto the competition mats, and she did it as a blue belt. That takes a lot of courage.

She trusted her training, stayed composed, competed hard, and represented Wrecking Crew exactly the way we hope our students do.

Results:
🥇 1st Place in her weight division
🥈 2nd Place in the Challenger division

What made me even more proud was hearing nothing but positive things from her opponents after the matches were over. Winning matters, but character matters more.

Respectful. Coachable. Competitive. Humble.

That’s the standard.

Proud of her for stepping out there and setting the tone for what Wrecking Crew is about. 💪🥋

A year ago we were just hoping to build something meaningful for kids in Hereford.

Now we need panorama mode just to fit everyone in one picture 😂

What started as a small group has turned into a real team.

We’ve got little kids learning confidence for the first time, older kids helping lead the room, competitors pushing themselves at tournaments, and friendships being built every single week on these mats.

None of this happens without the parents trusting us, the coaches investing their time, and the kids showing up ready to work.

Proud of what Wrecking Crew is becoming. We’re just getting started.
