MX Hunting Co. Named Official Outfitter for Desert Bighorn Sheep Hunts on Isla Tiburón — 2026/27 Season
Sonora, Mexico — MX Hunting Co. is proud to announce our formal partnership with the Comcáac (Seri) people, the traditional owners and stewards of Isla Tiburón. For the 2026/27 season, we are the official outfitter for desert bighorn sheep hunting on the island.
“This has been a long time coming,” said Justin Richins and Jesus “Chuy” Murillo of MX Hunting Co. “We’ve spent years building real trust with the Comcáac family, and we’re honored they chose us to handle their bighorn hunts. They own and steward the island. We take care of the guiding, boats, camps, and logistics so hunters get there safe and have a good experience. It’s a true partnership — they open the access, and we make the hunts happen.”
Working Side by Side Every hunt puts our guides shoulder-to-shoulder with Comcáac guides and packers. These guys know every ridge and canyon on Tiburón — they grew up with it. That local knowledge is something no outside outfit can touch.
We’re excited to get serious, ethical hunters onto this remote bighorn hunt. It’s one of the most tightly controlled in North America.
Long-Term Commitment We’re not here for one season and gone. We’re in it for the long run. Every tag fee goes straight to the Comcáac tribe, and they benefit by putting their own people to work as guides, packers, and boat captains. That money supports the families who protect the island day in and day out.
We want Tiburón to be known for solid rams and good, responsible management by the tribe.
Poaching Enforcement Poaching is not allowed on the island. 2026/27 There’s a new & strong system in place with three groups working together: SEMARNAT (federal wildlife authority) Sonora State Wildlife Enforcement. The Comcáac (Seri) Tribal Authority
They take it seriously and it gets enforced.
Sheldoni Mule Deer Update After their recent population assessment, the Comcáac decided to hold off on Sheldoni mule deer tags for 2026-2027. They’re focusing on genetics, age structure, and letting the herd build back up. In addition to the biological reasons, closing the island to deer will also help with access and preventing poaching. We back their call 100% — it’s the smart move when the numbers say the herd needs a break.
About Isla Tiburón Mexico’s largest island lies in the Gulf of California off the Sonoran coast. Access is strictly controlled, and hunting only happens through the limited tag system run by the state and the Comcáac. It’s a biosphere reserve with desert bighorn sheep and the unique Sheldoni mule deer.
About the Comcáac (Seri) People The Comcáac have been the stewards of the Sonoran coast and Isla Tiburón for thousands of years. All permits go through them, and their people are on the ground for every hunt.
About MX Hunting Co. We run hunts across more than 700,000 acres in Sonora. Between Justin and Chuy, we’ve got over 40 years of experience — 20+ years in Mexico with MX Hunting Co. and another 20 years of U.S. big game hunting through our sister company R&K Hunting Co. We offer fully guided fair-chase hunts with guaranteed tags for desert bighorn, Sonoran mule deer, Sheldoni mule deer, and Coues deer. Bilingual guides and full accommodations included.

After one failed stalking attempt and passing on several Coues deer, Chantell stayed patient and trusted the process. When the moment finally came, she made a perfect 350-yard shot, and her buck never stood a chance.

Six days of hard, unforgiving hunting didn’t slow her down one bit. Grit, discipline, and determination carried her through like a true champion. This is what “REAL WOMEN” in hunting look like — tough, focused, and absolutely lethal when it counts.

Bryson’s 3x3 stretches the tape to the magical 30-inch mark. The season is winding down, and we all worked our tails off this year. With the amount of rain and green feed, the deer were spread out and tough to find—you really had to grind to get it done. On the bright side, they should have an ample amount of feed to carry them through the dry season.

Luke made a perfect shot on a beautiful Coues buck, with his father Paul right by his side.
You can’t put a price tag on moments like this.

This is what MX Hunting is really about—not just the hunt, not just the trophy, but the memories that last long after the rifles are cased.
Time spent in wild country, learning patience, discipline, and respect, with family beside you.

Bucks fade. Antlers gather dust.
But these moments shape who we are and who we pass it on to.

Spend your time wisely. Spend it together.
Sonora, Mexico—where memories are made.

Paul with the coolest-looking Coues deer of the season.
Good luck topping this one.

A gnarly hook cheater, pure desert character, and a buck that makes you stop mid-sentence.
The 6.5 PRC did the job—clean and decisive.

But the real bonus?
His son by his side—watching, learning, and sharing a moment that’ll last a lifetime.
This is what it’s all about.

Our client was camera shy, so he had his guide step in for the moment.
After days of grinding, miles of glassing, and playing the long game in true desert fashion, this big old desert mule deer finally showed himself.

He said it best:
“Hard to kill this big old desert mule deer—but the work paid off.”

That’s Sonora.
That’s patience.
That’s earned.

Dave’s first trip to Mexico and he’s headed home with a beautiful Coues buck straight out of the Sonora mountains.

This is what working your tail off brings you—time on glass, boots on rock, and the Grey Ghost finally slipping up.

Sonora delivered.

Five straight days of grinding with Jake.
Boot leather burned. Glass never stopped moving.
Patience pushed to the edge.

Then it all came together — one clean opportunity and a perfect 400-yard shot that sealed it.
Earned the hard way. Exactly how it should be.

This is why we do it.
Five days. One moment. No mistakes.
