Stop. Think. Breathe. Choose.
Self-control is not a child who never gets upset. It is a child who knows what to do next.
The meltdown at the dinner table. The slammed door. The tears over a math worksheet. Every one of those is a kid with a big feeling and no next step.
So we give them four words.
Stop — stop the body.
Think — what is actually happening here?
Breathe — give the brain a second to catch up.
Choose — pick the next action.
Big feelings are normal. The skill is learning that a feeling does not get to drive.
We practice it on the mat so it works in your kitchen.
Say the four words with your child tonight, before anything goes wrong. They learn it best while they are calm.
Which one is hardest for your kid — Stop, Think, Breathe, or Choose? Tell me below.
