Last Friday evening, the inaugural class was inducted into the Lightning Class Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place as part of the banquet at the North American Championships in Sheboygan Wisconsin. One of the inductees, John Barnes, summered in Henderson Harbor on his family's cottage on Paradise Park Rd. John was the commodore of an early version of HHYC in 1930-32, which raced Aykroyd dinghies in the bay, and co-hosted a LYRA regatta off Association Island. His father, Skipper Barnes, was the second commodore of the club after it incorporated in 1947. Given the important roles John and his brother George played in the creation of the Lightning, we think Henderson Harbor can fairly claim a significant place in the boat’s history.

What a fantastic weekend for the Lightning Founders Regatta at HHYC. We had 12 boats competing in 6 races, and a regatta party featuring the "Baby Boomer Band". The regatta was won by John Newell and crew from Rochester aboard "Cut the Brakes", with local participant Tom King and crew aboard "Bud Lightning" a close second.
