Most shoulder setbacks do not announce themselves. They build quietly over weeks of small decisions that feel fine in the moment. Skipping the warm-up set is the most common one. A few lighter reps before your working weight costs about 90 seconds and gives your joints and stabilizers a chance to prepare. Without it, the first heavy set is doing two jobs at once. Rushing the lowering phase is the second. The controlled descent on lateral raises and flyes is where a lot of the actual training stimulus lives. Dropping the weight fast removes that stimulus and adds unnecessary stress to the shoulder joint. Training heavy before stable is the third. If your shoulder blade is not moving well, adding load on top of that pattern just reinforces the problem. Lighter, controlled work first builds the base that heavier sets need. None of these are dramatic fixes. They are small adjustments that protect the progress you are already putting in.
