🎮 ESPORTS — FORTNITE: IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS: Beyond the Battle Bus! 🚌

Let’s talk about yesterday as we took a game many of our students already know and challenged them to look at it completely differently. We had our student demonstrate their favorite emotes to then surprise Fortnite characters make learning the game truly next level fun. It’s not everyday you get a lesson from Peely, Lara Croft, and Drift. 🤩🤣😎

Instead of simply asking, “How do you play Fortnite?” we explored why Fortnite works the way it does.

Students examined the game’s foundations, different ways to play, building and core mechanics, strategy, rotations and map control, the constantly changing competitive meta, progression systems, collaborations, and Fortnite’s impact far beyond traditional gameplay.

We also connected Fortnite back to STEM, looking at how physics, technology, engineering, mathematics, game development, probability, and decision-making can all appear inside a single match.

And of course, we wrapped things up by putting their knowledge to the test with our Boss Battle Review. 🏆

The biggest goal wasn’t to create better Fortnite players.

It was to help our students become better at observing, analyzing, adapting, communicating, and understanding the systems behind the games they enjoy.

In true XP fashion we had our students experience what makes us truly next level 🎮

💻 COMPUTER SCIENCE: INPUT vs. OUTPUT!

This week our Computer Science Cohort explored one of the most important ideas behind how computers actually work, how information gets into a computer, and how the computer communicates information back to us.

Students looked at familiar devices like keyboards, mice, microphones, monitors, speakers, and touchscreens and learned how to identify them as input, output, or sometimes both.

But we didn’t stop at labeling hardware. The class followed the journey of information through a computer and then brought the concept to life with our Human Computer Relay, where students became the input device, processor, and output device themselves! Just check out their whiteboards 😄🩷 and even us as their instructors tried it too!! 🤪

It was a fun way to turn something that can sound very technical into something they could actually see, experience, and explain.

We love watching these concepts start connecting as our students discover that every click, tap, command, and image on a screen has a process happening behind it. 💙💚
