HURL Elkhorn Endurance Runs Home of the HURL Elkhorn Endurance Runs HURL organizes the HURL Elkhorn 50 mi, 50k and 23k races that take place the first Saturday in August.

Helena Ultra Runner's League (HURL) is a group of trail running fanatics who take full advantage of Helena's extensive singletrack trails. We take pride in running for hours on end often on remote mountain trails where we are no longer on top of the food chain. If you are in the Helena area, we would love for you to join us on our Wednesday or Saturday no-drop runs for all ages and paces. These ra

ces are mostly on technical single track, remote trail, with no pavement, just dirt, rocks, meadows, forest and incredible views. 50 mile runners also run through the historic Town of Elkhorn, and past its cemetery before circling beautiful Leslie Lake. Register at ultrasignup.com. HURL also hosts the Moonlight on Mt. Ascension 12-hour overnight event near the summer solstice in June. The course consists of a seven mile loop on Helena’s South Hill trail system. Runners can complete as many loops as they wish, which makes it perfect for both experienced runners and those who aren’t quite ready for an ultra distance event.

Favorite thing overheard at Elkhorn Endurance Runs?: “That’s what the runners ate most—water.” Water, Skratch Labs: Fuel + Hydration, watermelon, soda, anything watery.

THANK YOU runners and volunteers for joining us in the Elkhorns this year ♥️

From 14 year old Willa winning the half marathon overall, to three female pros essentially tying to win the 50k overall and set a course record. There were some incredible adventures out there!

Raise your hand if you enjoyed the flagged vacuum, spot the aid station volunteers left in the creek for maximum cooling, and the aid station supplied by Capital Sports game cart. Capital Sportsis course for you each year is always magical. This year was no exception after the past winter’s wind disaster downfall and a last minute course reroute due to wildfire. I think we all felt the gratitude on race day of a beautifully clear, calm morning after a week of poor AQI and fits and fire starts.

Already can’t wait until next year 🥹

More HURL trail clearing yesterday. Trail 344 up Jackson Creek and Trail 301 up from the Crystal Creek trailhead to Montgomery Park and to Casey Meadows. 9 hours, 12 miles on foot. These trails are not part of the HURL Elkhorn Endurance Runs courses but can now be enjoyed without crawling thru a bunch of downfall. Enjoy!
