Tuckerman’s Ravine

I grew up hearing stories about this nearly vertical precipice from my father and two of his brothers who used to drive there from Dartmouth in the 1920s and 1930s. They would carry their skis over their shoulders, climb on foot to the top, and then try not to get wind-milled on the trip to the bottom.

I’m not a skier, never saw Tuckerman’s, but this photo came up today on FB. It makes it look, if possible, even scarier than the stories.
