As this school year comes to a close, we want to say thank you to EVERY single person/business who stood behind this team and helped us raise funds this year! 💙
Most people only see the performances under the lights. What they don’t see are the hours, sacrifices, determination, and heart these athletes pour into this program every single day.
These kids learn ~8 dances, more than 20 sideline cheers, and ~12 crowd cheers each season, all while supporting our school and keeping energy alive for Herder teams on that court and field. They spend an average of 250 hours practicing, conditioning, lifting, and pushing themselves through fall, winter, and competition seasons.
And unlike many programs, these athletes also work tirelessly to raise the money needed to compete and grow. That’s where this incredible community stepped in.
From Homecoming flocking…to Thanksgiving pie sales…to helping fill our megapoms…you continue to show up for these kids in the biggest way. 💙
Here’s a glimpse at how far this program has come in the last three years:
- Team membership grew from about 5-6 athletes to a recent record of 13 cheerleaders last winter.
- 2025 marked the first competitive cheer team SGHS had seen in over a decade.
- At Cheerfest 2025, we narrowly missed the podium in team competition, but brought home 2nd place in the All-Class Co-Ed Basket Toss — competing against schools from Class C all the way to AA!
- At Great Northern, these athletes fought their way to the top and brought home 1st place in Class B.
- Then in 2026, they pushed even harder:
🥉 3rd place Small Group Class B at Cheerfest
🥇 1st place All-Class Basket Toss at Cheerfest
🥇 Back-to-back Great Northern Champions for Class B
This team has changed the culture of cheer at SGHS. They continue to build through hard work, grit, resilience, and heart.
And we’re not done yet…next year, we’re hoping to earn a bid to a NATIONAL competition. 🇺🇸
So when you see fundraising posts this summer and fall, know that you’re not just buying a pie, donating, or supporting a fundraiser. You’re helping these athletes chase dreams they’ve worked unbelievably hard for.
