Spent the last two days guiding on the river. Fall streamer fishing is one of my favorite times of year. Hard to beat big fish, warm weather, and a calm day on the water.

Tomorrow it's back to real estate and what looks to be a busy day. Days like today remind me how lucky I am to live where I do.

September means archery season in Montana, so elk hunting has definitely been on my mind. Hunters are everywhere, social media is full of elk, and there’s that familiar excitement that comes with September.

Elk season comes and goes quickly, but most serious elk hunters I know think about elk all year long.

For some, that eventually leads to the idea of owning a piece of Montana ground specifically for hunting. But finding the right property takes more than locating a ranch with elk on it. Public-land access, neighboring pressure, water, cover, food, migration routes and the ability to improve habitat all matter.

I put together a new blog on what I look for when helping buyers evaluate Montana land for elk hunting.

Fun fact. In the late 1900s. 1996 to be exact. The University of Montana Grizzlies took the field wearing their new look maroon and silver uniforms, moving on from the BELOVED copper and gold. The starting O-line lead the way.

It was the beginning of a new era for Griz football. New colors, new head coach, new quarterback, and one hell of a football team.

I’ll always be grateful I got to be a part of it. That day we went into Reser Stadium and dominated Oregon State on their home field.

Thirty years later, the Griz are headed back to Reser this Saturday.

Hoping there’s still a little Griz magic in that stadium.

A pretty good Montana workday.

Drove to Townsend to look at some real estate, then stopped at the Broadwater range to stretch the r***e out in some serious wind. Finished up by sending a few arrows downrange and, thankfully, they were on target. Archery season is almost here.

Real estate. Ri**es. Bows. Big country.

This is home. This is my life.

A month since my last guide day, and this was a good one to come back to.

Fishing has been tough lately, but today thoroughly exceeded expectations. Hoppers were the ticket, and we took advantage of the trout that were willing to look up.

Finished the day fishing down a side channel with bighorn sheep above us and the camera rolling.

Earlier this summer. Cold water, rising brown trout, and the kind of days you wish you could bottle up.

Now it's pushing 95°, and August is here. The season's best is behind us until cooler weather returns this fall. In the meantime, my focus shifts to helping clients buy and sell some of the very places that make this Montana lifestyle possible.

I'll be back on the water soon enough. Until then, there are clients to serve.

The best days on the Missouri River aren't always the sunniest.

A little June rain was all it took to get the trout looking up. Dry flies, steady action, and another reminder of why this river is one of the finest trout fisheries anywhere. Days like these never get old.
