Before AI and editing, there was old fashion long arming. It was passed down for generations of hunting and fishing guides. Zoom out as much as possible, get camera close to the animal, remove relativity(fingers!), and put everything waay in the background. There were subtleties and some guides were really good at it. Starting with a big animal was a good starting point, and long arming without the appearance of long arming was higher belt.

Last day of the selective coho season. This is my eleventh year guiding dory trips out of Pacific City and this was the best select season I’ve had. I’m excited for the next couple weeks- more focus on Lingcod and chinook, then September we get to keep some of the beautiful wild coho we’ve been carefully releasing all summer. The saga continues.

“2 more, we’ll have 1 more.” We never say we only need 1 more because it seems to jinx it. Today the first 11 hatchery coho came quick. Someone uttered the jinx and the last one took releasing a bunch of wilds and losing fish at the boat before we finally got em.

Another early day with limits of Bottomfish/Salmon/Crab. Best salmon season I’ve ever experienced. My pictures are pretty redundant, so follow Samuel Connelly for some videos of the action.

The Ho Down keeps on ho-ing. Bottomfish came quick, and only had to pull 2 pots for 72 crab!
