Maestro was forged as a tribute to John Ryzka and his years of leadership as director of the Wasatch High School marching band. Hand forged in my shop from 100-layer Damascus steel (1084/15N20), the flowing pattern reflects rhythm, movement, and the layered harmony of a musical composition. The knife features a fully integral construction, with a 9-inch blade and 5-inch handle forged from a single piece of steel, emphasizing unity, strength, and continuity. Every hammer blow, contour, and etched line was shaped by hand, creating a piece that honors both craftsmanship and a lifetime devoted to guiding young musicians. Like a conductor shaping sound into meaning, this blade transforms raw material into something disciplined, expressive, and enduring

Yesterday I was able to spend the afternoon with the amazing folks at Wasatch Forge I was invited to be a judge in their Bowie Knife competition. It was tons of fun and everybody represented themselves really well. Give them a follow, and if you’re in the Salt Lake area, go check them out. They’re doing some really cool things :-)

Our spring Bladesmithing season is almost finished. I had a great time with these amazing guys yesterday. They put in a lot of hard work and turned out some really beautiful knives. I look forward to working with them again in the future :-)

I was able to sneak a couple of railroad spike wall hooks into the forge between Damascus welding heats I don’t do a lot of this kind of work. But a local guy called and asked if I could make him some hooks to hang an heirloom rifle on.
