Losing muscle does not just change how you look. It can change how long you live.
The weakest adults in one large study had a six- to seven-times higher risk of death than the strongest. The good news is that keeping muscle takes far less than building it. Even one hard session a week can hold the line.
Busy is not the same as off. Doing less still counts.

What you see on the outside is just a nice side effect of what's happening inside. Strength training isn't about vanity but quality of life and longevity.

GLP-1 ≠ one-size-fits-all.
Fat loss is common… but preserving muscle, hydration, and metabolic health is what protects outcomes.

Grab the Beyond BMI guide + case study to see the 3 metrics top clinics monitor during GLP-1:
• SMM (muscle) trends
• VAT (visceral fat) change
• Fat % context with clear percentiles

“Muscle is the currency of longevity.”
Dr. Gabrielle Lyon
Strength training is not just for looking stronger. It is how you build the tissue that protects how long and how well you live.
Healthy muscle helps manage blood sugar, supports bones and joints, and keeps you capable as the years add up. The same work also trains your heart and circulation: better blood pressure, better insulin sensitivity, and a cardiovascular system that has to work against real load, not just a moving belt.
You will not see that story on the bathroom scale.
A seca scan shows the part that matters skeletal muscle, fat mass, visceral fat, and other markers of real health in about 24 seconds.
Book a scan at Unity Fitness. Measure what you are building. Then train for strength that lasts.

🏃‍♂️🧠 Did you know? Exercise isn't just good for your body—it has become one of the most strongly supported lifestyle approaches for improving symptoms of depression and anxiety.

When you exercise, your brain and body respond in several ways at once. Physical activity influences neurotransmitter systems involved in mood regulation, increases blood flow to the brain, and stimulates signaling molecules released by working muscles that can communicate with the nervous system.

Regular movement can also improve sleep, energy, stress regulation, and confidence, creating multiple pathways through which exercise can support mental well-being.

And the research is getting harder to ignore.

A major 2024 systematic review and network meta-analysis published in the BMJ examined 218 randomized trials involving more than 14,000 people with depression. Exercise produced meaningful reductions in depressive symptoms, with walking or jogging, yoga, strength training, and dancing among the approaches showing particularly strong effects.

More recently, a 2026 umbrella review in the British Journal of Sports Medicine combined evidence from 63 reviews, covering more than 1,000 studies and nearly 80,000 participants. Exercise was associated with significant reductions in both depression and anxiety symptoms, with aerobic exercise showing especially strong effects.

What's fascinating is that the benefits weren't limited to one perfect workout. Different forms of movement showed positive results, suggesting that the best exercise may ultimately be the one you can actually maintain consistently.

💡 Try this: Start with something manageable—a brisk walk, short strength session, cycling, swimming, dancing, or a group class. You don't need an intense training program to give your brain the benefits of movement.

🧠 Your brain isn't separate from your body. Every time you move, you're giving your nervous system another signal that can support your mental and physical health.

Could exercise be one of the most accessible tools we have for supporting mental well-being?

Most people never feel this happening. Bone loss is silent for years. There is no ache, no warning sign, no bad day that tells you it started.

You find out much later. Here is the part almost nobody is told. Your skeleton is living tissue. It is broken down and rebuilt all your life, and the balance between those two jobs shifts as you age. By your late twenties, most people have built about as much bone as they ever will.

After that, the rebuilding side slowly starts losing the argument. Here is what is actually happening inside you. One specific signal decides whether your body bothers to rebuild bone at all.

Miss that signal and nothing else you do matters much. Bone responds to load. When a muscle pulls hard on a bone, the bone reads that as a demand and lays down more material where the stress is.

No demand, no rebuilding. This is why walking alone is not enough for bones. It is wonderful for your heart and your mood, but your skeleton already handles your body weight every day. That is not new stress. Calcium is the building material, not the builder. You can eat all the dairy and greens you want.

Without a signal telling the body where to put it, the raw material sits unused. The mistake most people make is waiting. They plan to start lifting once something hurts, or once a scan shows a problem. By then you are rebuilding from a much lower floor.

Heavier and progressive beats light and endless. A few hard sets with real weight speak louder to bone than thirty easy reps with a light dumbbell you never make heavier. Hips, spine and wrists deserve the most attention.

Those are the sites that break first and change lives most. Squats, hinges, carries and pressing cover all three. This week, book two thirty minute sessions in your calendar like appointments. In each one do a squat, a hinge, a press and a loaded carry. Write the weight down so next week is heavier.
