Yesterday, some of our teacher team gathered at River Electric to soak up the sun and be together outside the walls of The Studio โ˜€๏ธ

At one point we were talking about how this team feels a bit like a wave, always in circulation. Teachers arrive, teachers move on, some have been here since the very beginning and others are newer to the fold. And yet the essence always remains the same.

The constant is the quality of human. The warmth. The openness. The trust. The willingness to show up fully, support one another, inspire, and genuinely care. And then of courseโ€ฆ ๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต.

We are deeply grateful for what exists here. Not just the movement we teach, but the people who make this community what it is.

Last week, we tragically and unexpectedly lost our beautiful friend and studio member, Jill Shadek, to a brain aneurysm at just 41 years old, only weeks after welcoming her second daughter, Della, into the world.

Many of you knew Jill from The Studio over the years. Bright-eyed, quietly magnetic, funny in that dry effortless way, and deeply kind. She carried a warmth that made people feel instantly at ease and seen.

What many people may not know is that Jill also helped shape The Studio itself from the very beginning. When the space was still just studs and concrete, Jill helped design many of the details and elements that became the home our community now gathers in every day. Her creativity and eye for beauty are woven into the walls of this place and into the feeling people experience when they walk through our doors.

Jill moved through the world with authenticity and heart. She was adventurous, intuitive, wildly intelligent, and able to connect naturally with people from every walk of life. She brought lightness wherever she went, whether in conversation, on the dance floor, or simply in the way she showed up for the people she loved.

She leaves behind her husband Mike and their two beautiful daughters, Fiona and baby Della.

Our hearts are with their family and all who loved her so fiercely. We will continue to hold them in love and community in the weeks, months, and years ahead.

Years ago, during a deeply transformative time in my life, I met my friend, ๐๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฅ๐š. At one point, she pulled a tarot card for me โ€” the ๐’๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก ๐œ๐š๐ซ๐ โ€” and that moment stayed with me in a way I canโ€™t fully explain.

The Strength card represents ๐ข๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ซ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž, ๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ž๐ญ ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐Ÿ๐ข๐๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ž๐ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ โ€” not force, but the ability to move through life with both ๐œ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐ ๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ญ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ.

It ultimately inspired the tattoo I now carry with me every day!

๐๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฅ๐š is a ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ข๐ฌ๐œ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ž๐ซ whose work is rooted in ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž, ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ฌ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.

Sheโ€™s also a founding member of Gogol Bo****lo, where she spent decades touring internationally as a ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ, ๐๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ซ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฏ๐จ๐œ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ โ€” an experience that shaped her understanding of ๐ฉ๐ž๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž, ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐ ๐ฒ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐š๐œ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ.
