Headland 15U Softball Team Wins State Championship, Advances to World Series
HEADLAND, Ala. — The Headland 15U softball team is headed to the World Series after an impressive undefeated run through the Diamond Youth Softball State Tournament in Ozark this weekend.
The team captured the state championship Sunday, earning the opportunity to represent Alabama as Team Alabama at the 2026 Diamond Youth Softball World Series in Laurel, Mississippi, July 15-20.
Headland battled through the tournament without a loss, showcasing strong pitching, defense and timely hitting on its way to the title. The championship marks a major achievement for a group of players who have spent countless hours practicing and competing together.
The state championship roster includes Addison Grantham, Evelyn Johnson, Audri Landreau, McKinley Olive, Ava Chase Pynes, Peyton Saunders, Kynslee Simon, Gracie Thomas, Karley Watkins, Kynlee Watkins and Mattie Blake Watford.
The team is coached by Keith Simon, Micah Johnson, Rodney Watford and Kelly Landreau.
Now, the players will turn their attention to the World Series, where they will compete against some of the top teams from across the country while representing Headland, the Wiregrass and the State of Alabama.
