Summer Volleyball is about to be in full swing at the Hayward Curling Club! Monday and Tuesday nights are league nights. Wednesdays at 6 pm there is pick up volleyball for people of all skill levels - this is meant to be a fun and not hyper competitive - no spikes in your face kind of volleyball. It is also family friendly. No alcohol will be served during the evening, and there is plenty of space for kids to play in the yard.

Announcing our first Volunteer of the Year award winner. While we know the award isn't plural, the Beckel Family put so much work into the club this year, from cleaning of snow before curling nights, to helping with learn to curls, setting up the clubhouse when we moved in, helping with maintenance things... and the whole family chipped in. Lorelei might be little, but she can move snow, I tell you! Congrats and much appreciation to the Beckel Family!

Thanks to all our club members and volunteers who came out this weekend to help clean up the ice! Wow, you make fast work of hard jobs. What a great little curling club you are all helping to make.

Up next is our annual meeting! April 19th, at 6 pm. We will take care of official business, and elect board members. There is one board position currently open. Please consider joining us!

After that - volleyball season is coming! We are continuing to keep the courts open and the clubhouse will be available for community members. Regular Monday and Tuesday night leagues will continue, and a new family friendly pick up Wednesday night league will also take place.

The board of the Hayward Curling Club invites you to our annual Spring Meeting, taking place Sunday April 19th, at 6 pm, at the clubhouse.

We will recap the high points of the year, discuss plans for the summer for the club, recognize our volunteer of the year, and review plans for our next season of curling!

Finally, we will hold election of the board of directors. Positions are elected annually. All members are eligible to be a board member. Per our bylaws, we have up to 9 members, including 4 officers (president, vice, secretary, treasurer) and 5 at large members.

"Nominations may be submitted to the Board of Directors. In addition, nominations may be made from the floor during the annual meeting.

Elections will be conducted at the Annual Spring Full Membership Meeting with the nominee with the most votes filling the first opening, the next nominee with the most votes filling the second opening, and so on. In case of a tie for the last opening, those nominees who have tied are voted on again until the nominee with the lowest number of votes is disqualified from filling one of the vacancies."

Nominations are to join the board of directors. The board then votes on its officers after the board has been elected.

If you are interested in serving on the board and would like to nominate yourself, please reply. We will also all club members with information regarding number of vacancies of current board members no longer interested in running for a board member role. You are encouraged to run for a position even if there is NOT a vacancy.

Spring Clean Up date is to be determined. We need the to fully melt, and will be looking for an anticipated nice day in the forecast, likely a Saturday or a Sunday afternoon. Please keep an eye out for an announcement message. Tasks include take down of the rink boards and tarp, removal of the Wayside Inn sign, some replacement of outdoor lights on the front eaves, etc…

Hope to see you at one or both of these days!

Unfortunately the Timberspiel will need to be cancelled. We toured the ice today and while it would have been a fantastic venue and event with Deerfoot Lodge & Resort, there will be too much standing water. Same goes for our curling ice.

Thanks to everyone who registered and was ready to participate. Thanks to Matt Shilling and Bob Ubbelohde for planning and coordinating! And to Amanda and Robyn at Deerfoot for being excellent partners. We are already in discussion about what we can do next year from a timing perspective to increase the chances of hosting this event.
