Even before my wife's bout with colon cancer, I had been extremely interested in researching the various health benefits of fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, etc. Not only do many of these healthy foods promote overall wellness and nutrition, but they also have disease fighting properties that are worth highlighting.

Therefore, the first ingredient I would like to shine a spotlight on is a popular spice that is widely used in many Mexican, Southwestern, Indian, and Middle Eastern dishes: Cumin!

Did you know that a mere 1 tablespoon of whole cumin seeds contains:

- Only 22.5 calories
- Only 1.3 grams of fat
- 2.7 grams of carbs
- 0.6 grams of fiber
- 1.1 grams of protein
- 6% of your daily value for Calcium, 5% for Magnesium, 10% for Manganese, and a whopping 22% for Iron!

Cumin has also been shown to potentially aid digestion and calm IBS, help control blood sugar, lower bad cholesterol, and aid in weight loss.

Additionally, it is high in antioxidants, has antibiotic and antimicrobial properties, and is anti-inflammatory (key in preventing or controlling disease)!

I have had Thyroid Cancer. My wife has just made it through a two year ordeal with Colon Camcer. Thank God she has had clean scans and everything looks good so far.

However, I wanted to do all I could to prevent reoccurrence, so I started researching. As it turns out, according to WebMD, studies have shown Omega-3 fatty acids to be beneficial in prevention of inflammatory cancers like Colorectal, Liver, Lung, and Prostate. Additionally, they may inhibit your cell growth and cause the self destruction of tumor cells!

Additionally, according to a study released on the National Institutes of Health website, it has the potential to reduce cancer recurrence by 70% (the study was done with a median 3 years after diagnosis).

Now obviously, diet and exercise play huge roles in this as well, but the news about Omega-3’s got me motivated to do research on which supplement to take a look at in addition to eating more fish.

Spit has been a really long time since I’ve posted here. Beyond COVID, I have been dealing with a mental health scare and a colon cancer issue with a family member, I addition to having our third child. However, over that time, I have learned a lot, adjusted how I do fitness and what I am focused on.

The goals are the same…being an encouragement to your fitness journey, being a well-researched source of information, and helping you get fit, no matter how big or small your budget is.

Full transparency, nothing I point you to on this page is going to be something I haven’t tried and loved myself. I think that’s only fair to you.
