gratitude is on my mind.
While much of the SCA world was swimming at Pennsic. we here in Rusted Woodlands were doing a SCA demo at the Township of Washington Demo at the towns library.
It was "Small SCA" at it's best. Branding, Marketing the SCA for people. Notice I did not say, "Recruiting" we don't recruit. Anyone who thinks we do is mistaken.
Branding and Marketing
Branding - we are establishing in people's minds the actuality of the SCA. It's possibility, attainability, and proximity to people as a activity. The scope, the fun, the community. Images on a computer screen gives no idea of the possibilities.
Marketing - we're pitching inclusion into a community and a world that can fulfill them and their thoughts of what's possible, most notably fun. We pitch the fun of the SCA, the entertainment value, and how close it is to you.
Small SCA. Most of you are at Pennsic, the grandest of events in our game. it's not what sustains the SCA. What sustains the SCA is doing what you love. Yes Pennsic is the biggest place, but it's only 2 weeks a year. events in kingdom are what the SCA is in part. local events improve the accessibility. Today's economic realities push people who love our game into a void of involvement. Many can't afford to drop a $100 bucks or losing work hours to go to a weekend event. That's the harsh reality of the world right now.
Things may get better, but that doesn't help you right now.
My challenge to you scadians is to ponder the case for "Small SCA"
be it a weekday practice, a local event, an activities circle, we need to do this to save this for all of us.
Lets make the SCA accessible to all. Let's push small SCA
