So awesome to have here with us from Korea. He trains at Paraestra in Korea. Paraestra started in Tokyo and is ran by Yuki Nakai. Yuki Nakai fought in an 8 man tournament in 1995 where he permanently lost his vision in one eye from an eye gouge injury in the first fight but won, won his semi final, and eventually lost to Rickson Gracie in the finals, he weighed about 135.

My favorite MMA fighter, Shinya Aoki also came from Parastrea in Tokyo. Still have the DVDs in Japanese. IYKYK

Always thankful to everyone that’s willing to put that logo on their back and put it on the line. Lindsay continues to improve and she can see her intentional work paying off. Nico looked great and is just getting used to the way we do things. Armando looked amazing. Lost a tough 2-0 match and got a quick guillotine in his other match … I been told you.

Back to work. On to the next.

I’ve been trying to pretend yesterday wasn’t coming. Jamie and Justin .dnkrt have been here from Germany 🇩🇪 for 2 months and last night was their last class before they return home. They were here for an IT work program with their university.

They trained constantly and everyone here loved having them and will miss them. It has been an absolute pleasure having them here. You boys are welcome here anytime and always.

They also got those Daisy Fresh x BJJ Fanatics .fanatics rash guards to support Heath with his eye surgery. ❤️

So proud of the extra work he’s been putting in. Cross training with other kids his age, staying after class and working with lots of our people but Matias and Armando have been working with him a lot. Transitions are getting better and that Madden overall awareness keeps going up : )

Good stuff buddy, we are all proud of you.

Was cool having Pix around for a few days. He was busy doing seminars but we got to eat a few meals and we pulled up for the seminar with our friends at in Ventura.

I’ve been injured (non jiu jitsu) and haven’t been able to do hardly anything, but I thoroughly enjoyed just getting to sit and watch Pix teach for almost 2 hours straight. Always learning.

No words for how proud I am of Matias . Matias didn’t just tear his ACL, he blew his knee out, for real. Completely torn ACL, complete and partial tear of MCL. 2 complete tears of the meniscus and 1 partial tear of the meniscus. All 5 surgically repaired at once. That’s why it was a year and a half, not 9-12 months.

Real s**t - he never complained. He worked his ass off. Lots of struggles. Lots of ups and downs, but all grind from Matias. He was scheduled to make his comeback at the CON, but as he got closer to being ready, he was itching to get back out there so he did LA. Got a dominating win, got on the podium, and got some good looks from very good, high level purple belts. We’re on now!

Another special night.

Bu .not.the.beach has been focused on school is the answer to the question I get asked most : )

But Bu is still here and was already long overdue for her purple belt. She’s still as good off the shelf as the best girls in the world. I don’t say that lightly either.

The most important thing for me is that Bu knows I have her back no matter what. Always. And I think we’re there.

One of my students, Lindsay t said “it must be really cool for you to promote two of the people that started building this with you in the same week” I hadn’t thought about it that way but she’s right. And more importantly, Matias snd Malibu made LA start to feel like home 💜

Last week before Heath and I went to teach the seminar up north, I promoted Matias to purple belt.

Can’t say enough good things. Matias completely blew his knee out right as we were preparing for his last major at blue belt. We had put in so much time and work, I was crushed, for him.

That was almost a year and a half ago. He had 5 repairs done to his knee at once (a true blow out), and his recovery has been full of ups and downs.

We are there. The return starts at the no gi event at the CON. Let’s fu**in go.

And when the boys at Shoyoroll saw it was time, they sent him a rashie. They are the best people and I’m forever grateful to them all.
