Wrapped up our first week of practice!!

It was hot…. To say the least.

We are super excited about this upcoming year. Things have looked completely different but Coach Brandon has put together a wonderful gameplan to get these boys back in the groove. Practice has been at a way faster pace than last year and it has been exciting to see them adjust and want to get better.

Starting bullpens next week with coach Braeden and moving forward with his gameplan to get these boys into throwing shape.

We got 3 weeks until our first weekend.

Hate that we are too old to compete in this one, but coach Cody’s little team Southern Finest will be competing this weekend!

Even though we aren’t competing, we want to help get the word out. There’s not going to be a better tournament this fall than this one. We are going to make Christmas special for the entire Shreveport/Bossier.

D4G will also be donating two bikes from our team!!

If you ask everyone on the team including parents, I can promise you there’s not a more likable kid than Carson Johnson.

Carson can teach every single person in the travel ball world a lesson.

He’s the definition of unselfish. The definition of a team “glue guy” I think every team needs a Carson Johnson.

It doesn’t matter if he’s sitting on the bench, batting, or in the field. You are going to hear Carson cheering and rooting for his teammates.

He wants the team to win and could care less about personal accolades. That’s what’s going to make him extremely special in life in general.

Baseball is Carson’s second sport. I’m telling you now he will earn a division 1 scholarship in football. There’s not a kid at his size who’s that light on their feet.

I mean the kid literally plays 3 different sports. That’s extremely different for a big kid like this.

In baseball Carson got into travel late but we learned quickly he can change the game with 1 swing. Another kid with power you can’t teach.

He also may get it a little harder because he’s coach Cody’s nephew…

The silent assassin🤫

Mijo isn’t going to say much but he’s going to be prepared every single time I ask him to go.

He’s so good at any role you put him in. He starts with ease but makes a HUGE impact when he comes in as a reliever. I always know if he’s not starting the game and if one of the starters gets in trouble then I can turn to Matthew and he will shut a game down QUICKLY.

He’s one of the best and most consistent arms in all of 13u this upcoming season.

Our past World Series, he pitched a complete game in 67 pitches. (6 innings) Allowed only 2 hits.

One of those games that just made you happy that he was on this team!!

That’s not even mentioning that fact that he hit a couple bombs this past year. He has sneaky power. One swing and he can change the outcome of the game.

Northwood is getting another kid in a few years that could contribute to the varsity squad as a freshman….. don’t say I didn’t tell you!! He’s got that special stuff🤷🏾‍♂️

The maddest dawg🐶

Maddox Jackson is hands down top two of most athletic kids I’ve ever coached. It’s a close race between him and Alijah Williams from my legends team.

Kid has unreal athletic ability. I don’t say this lightly when I say this kid will play division 1 sports in either football, baseball or get a chance to play both. That’s how good he is.

There was an instance maybe 2 years ago where Maddox rushed for 3 touchdowns one Saturday morning and then ran across the parking lot, changed clothes and came to the baseball field and went 2-3 with two doubles and played shortstop. Not any kid can do that.

Maddox ended the 12u season hitting a walk off home run to win us our World Series!!

Like my buddy Bruce Johnson says “kids got juice, he just scared to play the game”

I can’t wait to see Maddox keep growing and becoming one of the best two sport athletes to come through Haughton!

I like to coach kids like Rj McClendon.

Kids that don’t even know how good they really can be.

Rj has that power you really can’t teach. When Rj touches a ball REAL good it’s always a bomb. I’ve never seen him hit a home run and it barely went over. If he touches it then it’s usually gone by a mile.

More than likely you will hear me yell… THERE IT IS.

Not to mention that Rj is also the fastest kid on our team and that’s what surprises people. You don’t think a kid at that size can run with the small guys. Not only can Rj run with the small guys but more than likely will outrun those guys 😂

Minden is going to get a kid that once he puts it all together could be a double digit home run guy each year….. once again don’t say I didn’t tell you 🤷🏾‍♂️

Back to it‼️

Somebody asked me one day, who’s the best pitcher you’ve ever coached in your 9 years of travel baseball?

I’ve coached ALOT of dudes. Kids like Cydian Willis had crazy good stuff. Freaking Koi Cooper who came to me unpolished and worked to turn himself into my ace.

I could go on and on but Austin Ramirez is just different.

Austin has the potential to be one of the best pitchers to ever come out this area.

There’s not a doubt in my mind that Northwood is getting a kid that potentially could be ready to pitch varsity the first day he steps on campus. I mean this kid has Velo you can’t teach and he hasn’t even started lifting weights or living in a weight room yet.. that’s the scariest part.

I use to always tell my older group, sometimes we as a team knows who gives us the best chance to win when they get called to the bump.

Austin gives us a dang good chance to win every time he pitches. That’s how good his stuff is.

Not to mention he also bats leadoff, plays catcher (lefty catcher at that) and 1st base.

Kids special.

The 6 God🙏🏾

If you talk to any one that knows this kid, they will tell you that he absolutely worked himself into being one of the best kids in the area this year.

Kid went from a little pudgy first baseman who had good skill to a slim and athletic DUDE. All in the matter of a summer.

I don’t say that lightly. Brycen is legit. I’m talking about starting as a freshman at his respective high school legit.

Brycen is one of our aces and also our 4 hole hitter.

I got to the point in the season where I literally told him to hit the first good pitch he saw because I didn’t need him walking. That’s how good his bat is. His ability to drive the ball from gap to gap and also hit for power is ridiculous.

This is a kid who just loves the game. He wants to play. He wants to hit. He wants to talk baseball. He probably FaceTimes me once a day to talk about some type of baseball but I love the relationship we have.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see this kid playing on tv one day.

Fun fact is I got a chance to coach his brother as well. Something about that Underwood blood is different.

Warren is a kid that I wanted bad for our group this year.

We wanted to get faster. And we got a WHOLE lot faster getting Warren to join our squad.

Dude has legit elite defensive skills in the middle infield. I honestly believe some of the best that I’ve seen in my years of coaching at this age.

Hitting wise I always say, you don’t always need a team full of guys that can put it out. You need those high energy, good contact, fast guys as well. Warren fits that mold to a tee. He puts you in the mind of Derek Curiel at the plate as far as knowledge of the zone and good contact.

We will only have Warren for the fall and then get him back after spring when highschool baseball is over.

Warren will be starting on varsity for Ringgold high school as a 7th grader. This is only the start of what’s going to be a special career for this kid.

There’s no doubt he will be in the dugout every chance he gets to cheer on his boys doing the spring season. We are super pumped to have this dude with our squad.

Sometimes you take a chance on a kid who hasn’t played much travel but you know his athleticism is undeniable.

That’s exactly what happened with
Kason Shaw.

Kason is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to athletic ability. He took his actual baseball skill to another level this past season and paired it with that athleticism.

There was one point at the end of World Series where this kid got an extra base hit EVERY at bat.

He went 5-5 at one point with no singles…. Everything was an extra base. Insane.

I say this all the time… Kason is raw.

A type of raw that could turn into one of the best players to ever come out of Lakeside if he keeps refining that baseball skill. You can’t teach the type of athleticism he has.

Watch what I tell you… don’t say I didn’t warn you🤷🏾‍♂️
