⛷Stillwater Area High School Alpine Ski Teams: A Legacy of State Tournament Success
Stillwater Area High School’s alpine ski teams are among the most successful programs in school history. Between the girls and boys teams, they have captured 11 state championships—10 by the girls and one by the boys, along with numerous conference and sectional race titles.
The girls’ teams claimed state championships in 1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, and 2018. Individually, Katie Lee earned the state title in 2002, Andrea Saterbak earned state titles in 1981 and 1982, while Missy Kool was the state champion in 1977. The boys' team won its state championship in 1981.
Pictured is a scan from the 1982 yearbook featuring the girls' alpine ski team, coached by Len McGuire with assistant coach Ron Jacobson, during one of their state championship seasons. That same year, the boys' team finished as state runner-up.
The alpine teams opened their 2026 season with a conference meet at Wild Mountain on Tuesday and compete again today at Afton Alps. Come out and support the Ponies. It’s shaping up to be another great season on the slopes. 🎿
Stop in to look through Stillwater High School Yearbooks from 1916 to 2025 in the St Croix Collection Room anytime the library is open. It's fun to see how students lived and what they looked like in earlier years.
