A Great Start Shooting School A Great Start Shooting School is a private range and classroom. One on one instruction and other cl Our primary focus is on safety education.

A Great Start is what you will have if you are new to fire arms. If you have a gun in the home but don't want to shoot, we will teach you how to unload a fire arm. If you are curious to find out if guns are something you are really interested in, we offer an intro to gun handling course, before you take your pistol permit class. We do offer the pistol permit class as well once you have decided to

take that step. If you are looking to start shooting and moving, I highly suggest the shooting sports like IDPA and USPSA. We have introduction to those shooting sports as well. Private lessons are always available to focus on what you are looking to improve on. Check out the web site for more information on the classes offered. http://www.agreatstartshootingschool.com/services-offered.html

Why students choose AGSSS

Many of my students come to me because they do not see themselves as “gun people.”

They are nervous.
They are unsure.
They may even be a little afraid.

And honestly, many are surprised when they meet me too — because I’m not the “gun girl” they expected.

That’s part of why A Great Start Shooting School works.

I built AGSSS for total beginners. For the people who want a safe place to ask questions, go slowly, and learn without feeling judged, overwhelmed, or out of place.

My goal is not just to teach the mechanics.
My goal is to help people go from fear to confidence.

That means:

breaking things down into small, manageable steps

helping students slow down and breathe

creating a calm, supportive environment

meeting each person where they are

helping them leave with more confidence than they had when they arrived

Some students go on to become passionate shooters.
Some simply leave feeling safer, more informed, and more comfortable than they ever thought possible.

Both matter.

If you’ve ever felt like this world was “not for someone like you,” you may be exactly who AGSSS is for.

It’s an election year in our state. Our sitting CT Governor has put forward a bill that does nothing to prevent violence or su***de. If we’re going to “do something,” let’s make it meaningful and effective.

Approximately 2 out of every 3 gun deaths are su***des. If a proposal doesn’t focus on mental health resources, awareness, access to care, treatment capacity, and crisis support — then it isn’t addressing the largest share of gun deaths.

The current bill focuses on the mechanics inside a gun (convertable pistols). My problem with that approach is simple: I can’t find evidence in Connecticut (or anywhere else in the US) that we have a real pattern of crimes being committed with “convertible pistols.” If there isn’t a documented problem, then there will be no way to see if the bill is effective. If there isn't a statistical problem there is nothing to solve.

I’ve watched CT for years, including and since Sandy Hook: legislation that targets features, colors, types, or manufacturers — instead of starting with actual data and dealing with violence as a whole. Guns don’t have intent, people do.

While lawmakers focus on hardware, they are not focusing on what actually prevents violence: helping people in crisis before they hurt themselves, and helping those at risk of harming others build the support, stability, and tools to choose life.

That’s where “violence prevention” should be focused — mental health, early intervention, and real support.

Thankful for gifts of simplicity. This cloth was a gift and now it blesses my kitchen with beauty.

What’s the #1 safety tip for beginners?

If you’ve ever felt nervous holding a firearm, you’re not alone. Most of our students—especially women—start out feeling exactly the same way. The good news? Safe gun handling is a skill anyone can learn, and it always starts with one simple rule: Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

No matter your experience level, this habit is your best friend at the range (and at home). It’s the first thing we teach, and the last thing we review before every session.

Curious about what a private, confidence-building lesson feels like? You can schedule a one-on-one session or join our next permit class. Let’s make safety second nature, together.

This is a share from my friend Gabby Franco, she moved here from Venezuela.

I woke up to the news that the U.S. bombed Venezuela and took down the dictator and assassin, Nicolas Maduro. I thought this was fake or AI. You see, for over twenty years, we have seen multiple failed attempts to remove Chavez and Maduro. I thought the "conversations" between Venezuela and the US would end up like those before. But wow!!! had the guts to do what other powerful nations didn't dare, despite knowing Chavez and Maduro's crimes.

Thank you, , for keeping your promise to the Venezuelan people. Thanks to all the U.S. military members and many Venezuelans who risked their lives on this mission. We don't know who you are, but know that you'll be in my prayers — may God give you strength, protection, and wisdom to keep fighting evil and bring freedom to the people.

Please pray with me for Venezuela 🙏🙏🙏

FYI: This Venezuelan flag with 7 stars is the real one, the one I have carried for year on my shoulder as a reminder of a free Venezuela!
