The girls had a great night last night at Frazier Farm for the first Jump Night of the season! It was a night full of firsts ….Hottie and Liv’s first time off property together, and Lydia’s first time jumping 2’!

Was it perfect? Absolutely not. But that’s not what matters most. What mattered was that our crew showed up, challenged themselves, stepped outside their comfort zones, and had FUN doing it. Those first steps toward bigger goals, stronger partnerships with their project horses, and growing confidence are what this sport is really about.

I’m beyond proud of the horsemanship these girls continue to show and their willingness to try something new and scary. That courage is what builds real riders. 💙

Let’s keep this same momentum going for the rest of the season, team! 🐴✨

Special thanks to Meg Flaherty, and Lauren Schultz for taking time out their busy schedules to join us and help out. ❤️

What a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend at the Show Off Equine Events show series! Even though Saturday brought some pretty gross weather, we made the best of it by getting all of our grooming, tack cleaning, and prep work done so we were ready to go for show day. Sometimes those rainy horse show days end up being some of the best memories anyway.

A huge thank you to Marie for giving up most of her Mother’s Day weekend to come help and support the team, we truly appreciate everything you do. Thank you as well to Lydia for coming along to observe and learn the ropes of how this show runs so she knows what to expect for future events. These are such lovely, laid-back, welcoming shows and a fantastic atmosphere for riders to gain experience and confidence.

We also want to thank Show Off Your Equine for continuing to put on such a wonderful series. The beautiful scenery in New York combined with the relaxed and encouraging environment makes these shows such a great experience for everyone involved.

And of course, congratulations to Kaylie and Meg, who both had fantastic weekends! Their classes were huge…with anywhere from 9 to 14 exhibitors in each class and they came home with some very respectable placings. I’m incredibly proud of both of them for their hard work, positive attitudes, and how well they rode all weekend long.

This may only have been our second show of the season, but it was definitely a great one and the perfect way to continue building momentum for the months ahead. Now it’s time to unpack, catch up on barn chores, and start getting ready for the next adventure! 🐴💙

“Horse on Lease-no longer available for sale”
✨ “Captain” — 7yo, 16.3h OTTB Gelding ✨
💥 mid 4’s for a — EASY TO THE BEST SUITABLE! We haven’t been very aggressively trying to move him because he’s been so fun to work with but now we need the stall asap! Let’s make a deal. Open to leases off property too.

Looking for your next absolute gem? Captain is your guy. This 7-year-old, 16.3h OTTB gelding has the sweetest, kindest personality and the brains everyone wants. He’s brave, quiet, has an engine that can go, but takes everything in stride… a nice big stride, pun intended. Great project for an ammy, or someone looking make a nice show horse. Not for a beginner. Retired Sound last year.

This boy enjoys a job, nothing phases him. He’s a big love bug ❤️!! He’s still green as he took a place on the back burner this past horrible winter but is back in training boot camp now and doing fantastic. He’s is ready to finish your way — hunter, dressage, eventing, all-around — you name it, he’s game. He’s your next show partner.

⭐ 16.3 hands
⭐ 7 years old
⭐ Quiet, gentle, sweet
⭐ Easy to handle, easy to love, still an OTTB - beginners need not inquire

We’re excited to continue growing our team here at JLS Mission Equine and introduce (or reintroduce!) the amazing instructors who make our program what it is 💙🐴

Meg Flaherty – Instructor
Meg is one of those riders who has truly grown up in the saddle. At just 18, graduating this year from Lakeview High School in Litchfield, CT, she has been riding since the age of three and already brings years of experience to her students.

Meg owns four horses of her own (with another young one she’s excited to start this year!) and has spent the last five years teaching riders of all ages, especially connecting with teens and younger students. Her calm, encouraging, “big sister” approach makes her incredibly relatable and supportive in the ring.

She has experience across multiple disciplines including hunters, dressage, eventing, Western pleasure, and in-hand work, and has worked with everything from push-button lesson horses to starting young, green horses under saddle. Meg has a real passion for developing young horses and helping riders build confidence the right way from the ground up.

Lauren Schultz – Instructor (New to Our Team!)
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Lauren as she joins the JLS team!

Lauren is the definition of a “girl next door” horsewomen, down to earth, hardworking, and someone you instantly feel comfortable learning from. She started riding at age 7 in the hunter/jumper world and grew up competing locally before expanding into eventing and barrel racing.

Her journey with her pony Emmy helped shape her early career, and in 2020 she purchased Riker, who brought her into more competitive levels of eventing and jumpers (up to 3’6”–3’9”), while also developing on the barrel pattern.

After navigating some soundness challenges with Riker last year, Lauren shifted her focus fully to barrel racing…and had an incredible season, consistently placing in the 1D and 2D divisions and qualifying for and competing at the World Championships in Georgia in 2025.

She is also a certified horse hauler and runs her own hauling business, bringing a strong understanding of horse safety and care both on and off the farm.

And as always… Ms. Jenn 💙
Behind it all, Ms. Jenn is here to guide, mentor, and support every rider, every instructor, and every horse that comes through our program.

Jenn is a CHA-certified riding instructor, show judge, and lifelong horsewoman who has ridden and competed from local schooling shows all the way up through rated circuits. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology and Animal Behavior.

Before even entering the military, Jenn was already teaching beginner lessons and working as a veterinary technician to support her horse passion. She enlisted at 17 and went on to serve 27 years on active duty in the Connecticut Army National Guard, all while staying as connected to the horse world as possible.

After retiring in 2020, she jumped right back in—leasing, teaching, continuing her education in horsemanship, and growing what would become JLS Mission Equine (est. 2018) and later founding Operation Hold Your Horses Rescue in 2023.

Around here, Jenn is “the barn mom”, mentoring not just riders, but instructors too. Our program is built on strong, well-rounded horsemanship, safety, and creating a supportive, family-oriented environment where people can learn, grow, and feel at home.

We are proud to be a small, community-focused barn working to keep horses accessible and affordable in a time where that’s not always easy…while also supporting our rescue efforts and giving back to our community, including our veterans.

✨ Lessons are open and scheduling now!
You can book with Meg or Lauren, and as always, Ms. Jenn is here every step of the way to support your journey.
