Paynes Creek Trail System Paynes Creek is a 9 mile multi-use trail system. Mountain bikers, runners and walkers are all welcomed on the trail. No horses or motorcycles allowed.

Trail update 11 June 2025:
All fallen trees have been removed from the trail that occurred during the recent storm on Saturday evening. Please remember not to ride on the trail when it has rained the previous day. Trail update 8 October 2024: Paynes Creek Trail System is now open!! Huge Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this happen!!! The trail still has heavy leaf litter and debris so please use caution. We will continue the clean up but wanted to clear the trail to the point to where it was rideable and safe!! Trail Update 1 October 2024. The Heartbreak Ridge Trail is open!!! Some volunteers and I completed clearing the smaller Heartbreak Ridge 2.6 mile trail today however the Main Trail 7.5 mile is still closed. Once it’s cleared I will submit another post to this page. Again big Shout out to Matt McCrae and his crew for their efforts on Sunday and to my volunteer who helped me finish clearing the trail today!!

Trail update 30 Sep 24: Due to the recent storm over this past weekend the Paynes Creek Trail is closed due to massive number of trees being blown over and unsafe trail conditions. We ask that everyone stay off the trail until all hazards and fallen trees can be removed. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter. Thanks. Trail update 13 July 2024. Three large trees were removed from the trail along with a lot of debris from the recent storm. I want to thank all of the people who brought those issues to my attention and I want to encourage everyone to continue to advise me of any issues with the trail. Ride safe and keep hydrated!! Trail update 16May24. Trail maintenance has begun to clear some trees and large limbs out of the trail. Below is a picture of where someone put large rocks on the trail. Please let me be clear, No one has permission or authorization to make any changes to the current trail system at Paynes Creek without having the express permission from the Hart County Administrator. This trail is a multi-purpose, flow type trail and any changes or modifications of the trail are strictly forbidden. Whoever put these rocks on the trail, please do not do that again.
Also just be aware to use caution when approaching trail workers. They will always be working in the opposite direction than the posted direction for that day. Thanks and and ride safe! Jud Turpin, Paynes Creek Coordinator/ Volunteer.
