This year’s Coach’s Award was presented to Senior Wyatt Johnson. Wyatt demonstrated methodical discipline in every competition in an effort to save every possible shot for his team. He never let up, and proved to be a very valuable piece to our team’s success by placing 6th at the Regional, earning 4 Top 10 individual finishes and winning his first HS Tournament. Above all, Wyatt displayed great character and integrity during a pivotal match against Brighton, and in the process left a mark on the Hartland golf program for years to come. Congratulations on a successful HS Golf career Wyatt!

🦅 Eagles in the Classroom! For the first time in memory - the Varsity Boys had 3 players who have a cumulative GPA of 3.9+

Your 2026 Scholastic Award winners are Grant Sturos, Sam Hammond and Aidan Oake.

Additionally, the Hartland boys golf team had 14 KLAA Scholar Athletes (3.35+ GPA). Not a small feat considering the time management needed to play high school golf and stay sharp in the classroom. The Regional 5 had a team GPA of 3.66 and will be nominated for MIGCA All-State Academic Honors. Great job men! 📚

The Jeff Harris Pitbull award honors a player that has the ability to lock on and close out a match or tournament round. The match medalist in each KLAA dual he played, 8 top-10 Tournament finishes, 10 tournament rounds at 76 or better and a cumulative season scoring average of 36.8, which ranks as the lowest in Hartland Golf history, Junior Aidan Oake showed how to compete and close. Oake showed a rare HS skill of playing closing stretches of tournaments under par to climb the leaderboard and help the team do the same. With tournament scores of 69 at the Loop (3rd lowest) and 34 vs. Brighton (3rd lowest) and an 18-hole scoring average of 73.9, Oake becomes the 1st Eagle to average under 74, and is this year’s Jeff Harris Pitbull Award Recipient. Congratulations Aidan.

The Ethan Hawker Commitment award honors a player whose on and off-course commitment to the TEAM stands out. Senior Michael Maurin and Junior Liam Kastamo were team-first from day one! These guys were the first to lend a ride to an underclassmen, coordinate team food for overnight competitions, or go the extra mile to make sure they were prepared, and the team was prepared. Liam shot a season best 72 at the Katke Classic and Michael capped a splendid 4-year varsity career by also shooting a 72 in his final round at the MHSAA State Finals. Beyond golf, Liam and Michael both cared more about the team than any individual success, and they both committed a tremendous amount to the Eagles 2026 campaign. Thank you both very much for your efforts!

The Sam Stark Grinder award is given to players who never, ever give up until the last putt is holed. Two players were given adequate opportunities to prove this Hartland standard and provide useful contributions to our team. Despite an occasional bump during a round (which is inherently part of golf) these gentlemen consistently dug in and “ground out” the best score they could for their entire day – perhaps the most valuable trait of a team player. At this level – every stroke counts, and these guys understood that! Congratulations to Senior Wyatt Johnson and Sophomore Jase Sensor – your gritty perseverance is appreciated!

Congratulations to this year’s Hartland Varsity Boys Golf team – on a tremendous season. As a team, our Varsity A finished with a team tournament average score of 301.5, the lowest in school history, on some of the best courses in the State. The Eagles added their 8th Regional Championship in school history, and placed 8th in the Division 1 State Finals. Hartland finished 3rd in the KLAA Conference overall. Above all, we competed with dignity, integrity and class….and never gave up until the last putt dropped at FSU last weekend. This was one special group of young men.

Thank you to Dunham Hills Golf Course Head Pro Chris Moore, GCSAA Superintendent John Sabat, and F/B Leadership Katlynn McCormick and Jamie Needham along with all the DH staff and ownership group for being warm, welcoming and enthusiastic supporters of HS golf and kids in general.
